I stayed in a cozy bungalow and it was perfect for me for 8 nights. If my stay was shorter, I would have upgraded since the other rooms are more spacious and generally nicer. The customer service was top-notch. The pool was incredible! I spent all my time upstairs in the yoga palapa area.

Your Travel Guide to Zamboanguita as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to Zamboanguita from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

The most convenient way to reach Zamboanguita from Manila and other major Philippine cities is by air, flying into Dumaguete Airport (DGT). Airlines like Philippine Airlines and Cebu Pacific operate flights from Manila to Dumaguete. Flight durations are typically around 1 hour and 30 minutes. Fares can vary significantly, but booking in advance, especially during sale periods, can help secure cheaper tickets. From Dumaguete Airport, you can take a taxi or arrange a private transfer to Zamboanguita, which is about 40-50 kilometers away.

For travelers coming from other parts of the Visayas or Mindanao, ferry services might be an option to reach Dumaguete City. Once in Dumaguete, you can then proceed to Zamboanguita via land transport. Buses and vans regularly ply the route between Dumaguete City and Zamboanguita. The bus fare is generally affordable, ranging from PHP 50 to PHP 100, and the journey takes approximately 45 minutes to an hour.

If you prefer to drive, Zamboanguita is accessible by road. From Manila, you would typically take a ferry to Dumaguete or drive through various routes across Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. The total travel time by car can be extensive, involving multiple ferry crossings. For those already in Negros Oriental, driving is a straightforward option, with well-maintained roads leading to Zamboanguita. You can book your flight to Dumaguete easily on Traveloka.

Best Time to Visit Zamboanguita

The Philippines generally experiences a tropical climate, and Zamboanguita is no exception. The best time to visit Zamboanguita is typically during the dry season, which runs from November to May. During these months, you can expect sunny days with lower humidity, making it ideal for outdoor activities, exploring the beaches, and visiting nearby islands like Apo Island for snorkeling or diving.

The period between December and February is often considered the peak tourist season due to pleasant weather and holiday festivities. However, this also means higher accommodation rates and more crowds. For a more relaxed experience and potentially better deals, consider visiting during the shoulder months of November or the early part of the dry season. The wet season, from June to October, brings more rainfall, which might occasionally disrupt outdoor plans, though it also means fewer tourists and lush green landscapes.

Food and Dining Near Zamboanguita — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

When in Zamboanguita and the wider Dumaguete region, Filipino travelers should definitely explore the local culinary scene. Seafood is abundant here, so indulging in freshly grilled fish, prawns, or squid is a must. Look for local eateries or "carinderias" that offer home-style Filipino dishes. Kinilaw, a Filipino ceviche made with raw fish marinated in vinegar, onions, and spices, is a refreshing choice, especially with the fresh catch available.

Another local specialty to try is SUTUKIL, a popular cooking method in the Visayas region, which stands for Sugba (grill), Tula (soup), and Kilaw (raw/ceviche). Many restaurants offer this combination, allowing you to enjoy the same fish prepared in three different delicious ways. Don't forget to sample local delicacies and snacks. Try "Budbod," a sweet sticky rice dessert often flavored with chocolate or coconut, a perfect treat after a savory meal.

For a taste of something truly local, seek out "Sinugba," which refers to grilled meats, often pork or chicken, marinated in a savory sauce. The smoky flavor is distinct and satisfying. Pair your meals with "Sinangag" (garlic fried rice) and a fresh fruit shake, perhaps made from local mangoes or bananas. Exploring these flavors will give you a genuine taste of Negros Oriental's culinary heritage.

Local Culture, Safety Tips, and Essential Apps for Zamboanguita

Filipino culture is known for its warmth and hospitality. In Zamboanguita, you'll likely encounter friendly locals who are proud of their town. It's customary to be respectful of elders and local customs. Learning a few basic Tagalog or Cebuano phrases can go a long way in fostering positive interactions. Always ask for permission before taking photos of people, especially in more traditional settings.

Safety in Zamboanguita is generally good, as it's a relatively peaceful town. However, as with any travel, it's wise to remain aware of your surroundings, especially in crowded areas like markets. Keep your valuables secure and avoid displaying expensive items unnecessarily. It's also advisable to stay hydrated, use sunscreen, and be cautious when swimming in the sea, paying attention to local advice regarding currents.

For communication and navigation, having a reliable mobile signal is helpful. Consider getting a local SIM card if you don't have one. Essential apps for your trip might include a reliable map application like Google Maps, a translation app if you're not fluent in local dialects, and ride-hailing apps if available for transport within Dumaguete City. The staff was outstanding! Very friendly and accommodating. The pool area was top notch, very clean and enjoyable with the bar and dining area right there. My room was clean and well maintained, however the sight advertised a rainfall shower head, a fixed shower seat and a tv, which it did not have. It was close to the beach and had small outdoor seating area. The food was very good. I enjoyed that it was in a small village where you can wander around and connect with the people and experience their local cuisine. The beach had many small fishing camps and fishing boats and locals out fishing which I enjoyed seeing. The only thing I was disappointed about was no one was out on the beach swimming or sunbathing. I was kind of expecting more of a beach experience. But the walks on the beach were enjoyable

It's a secret garden! Beautiful grounds, super friendly and cheerful staff. Amazing pizza and other foods. Fun pool bar. And it's hard to tell from the ad, but it's got a real nice Sandy beach also! Ps. I don't know what their mattresses are called, but they are thick and dense and render a great night's sleep!

First impressions wow looks amazing. Staff was very friendly looks well maintained. Some odd things though, cctv cameras are literally everywhere, feels uncomfortable. Some strange rules, odd caretaker lurking around property. Claims to have wifi, but then you find out only wifi is by the bar. "free breakfast" was disappointing, dogs and roosters very loud at all hours of day and night. Tap water yellowish tint, pretty sure rat in walls of bungalow. Basic bungalow does not have A/C, has inadequate ceiling fan. I asked for a fan and begrudgingly they provided. Upon check out they claimed that we damaged the toilet seat, cracking it somehow wanted to charge me $25. They claimed that they thought I knew. I will go back to this part of Philippines but would not stay here again. Its like the Stepford resort, looks amazing on the exterior but not so nice inside.

The place looks very nice and tidy. Good water pressure and hot waters. However there little things that make our stay less pleasent. - The food is not good (you don't have any choices outside the hotel). - Bed blanket, not pleasent at all. We didn't use it in the end. - Drinks, serving shake without a strow. - Light in the room and the restaurant are strong white which make the places feel like an office. I guess for a family it could be nice but not for couples.

I wouldn't recommend staying here. TV and WiFi both go offline 3-4 times daily. Restaurant is very limited and area outside resort is not clean. Owners also bad mouthed other resorts that are much nicer. Overall I give this resort a rating of 2.5 on a scale of 0-10.

Awesome resort on the ocean with all the extras!! We only planned to stay for a one night but we opted for a second after we arrived. The rooms were beautiful and clean with all the amenities. Wi-Fi was great and they had plenty of fresh water and fruit. The owner was very kind and generous and help us get in touch with some locals to go boating, kite boarding, diving and snorkeling. Every meal we had was excellent and the staff was hands down the best in the Philippines I came across. The pool was amazing and the grounds were landscaped to perfection. It was truly paradise!! Great job Gunter and I will be back again someday!!

For the price, this property is exceptional. The staff are excellent. There is a private beach, but I spent all of my time at the pool and up in there little open air Yoga cabana.

Great resort at a good price. Internet was a big upside, food was good, rooms were clean. Mattress could be better, but then again it's not a 5* resort so not complaining.

Staff are nice and accommodating. If you want peace and quiet time, it's best to check-in on weekdays. Beach is clean and it is more private.

White Chocolate Hills is a nice resort in a well-planned area with a nice pool. You can choose between more expensive bungalows and more native bamboo cottages with nipa-roof. The atmosphere is simple and peaceful. It is situated at a big beach.
