Was there for just a day during a long layover. It's close enough to the airport and to shopping to be a good place for day use for a long layover. Modern and clean and very polite, professional, friendly staff. The private room was small but comfortable. Shower was very good! Would be happy to stay here again in the future.

Your Travel Guide to Pasay as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to Pasay from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

Pasay City is a major transportation hub, making it accessible from virtually anywhere in the Philippines. For travelers coming from other islands or distant provinces, flying into Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) is the most common method. NAIA is located within Pasay itself, offering unparalleled convenience. You can often find competitive fares if you book flight tickets in advance, with prices from major hubs like Cebu or Davao potentially starting from PHP 2,000 to PHP 5,000 for a round trip, depending on the season and airline.

For those traveling from Luzon's northern or southern regions, bus travel is a viable and economical option. Numerous bus companies operate routes to Pasay's various terminals, such as those near EDSA or Taft Avenue. A bus journey from Baguio, for instance, might take around 5-6 hours and cost approximately PHP 500-700. From Bicol, expect a longer journey of 8-10 hours with fares in the range of PHP 800-1,200. These terminals are well-connected to Pasay's local transport network.

Driving your own vehicle to Pasay is also feasible, especially for those coming from nearby provinces in Luzon. Major expressways like the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) and North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) connect to Metro Manila's road network, leading directly to Pasay. Be prepared for toll fees, which can add up, and navigate through the city's traffic, which can be challenging during peak hours. Having a reliable GPS or navigation app is highly recommended.

Best Time to Visit Pasay

Pasay City experiences a tropical climate, characterized by two main seasons: the dry season and the wet season. The dry season, typically from November to April, offers the most pleasant weather for exploring. During these months, you can expect sunny days with lower humidity, making it ideal for outdoor activities, visiting attractions like SM Mall of Asia, or simply walking around the city. Temperatures usually range from 25°C to 33°C.

The wet season runs from May to October. This period is marked by higher humidity and frequent rainfall, often in the form of heavy afternoon showers or thunderstorms. While this might deter some outdoor plans, it's also the time when you might find fewer crowds and potentially lower accommodation prices. If you plan to visit during this time, it's wise to carry an umbrella or raincoat and have indoor activities as backup.

For Filipino travelers looking for the best balance of good weather and manageable crowds, the months of November to February are often considered ideal. This period falls within the dry season and coincides with cooler temperatures due to the "amihan" or northeast monsoon. It's a great time to enjoy Pasay's attractions without the intense heat of the summer months or the heavy rains of the monsoon season.

Food and Dining Near Pasay — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

Pasay and the wider Metro Manila area offer a culinary landscape that reflects the Philippines' diverse flavors. When you're in Pasay, make sure to try Adobo, the unofficial national dish. Whether it's chicken or pork, the savory and slightly tangy combination of soy sauce, vinegar, garlic, and peppercorns is a comforting taste of home. You can find excellent versions in local eateries and even in some of the larger dining establishments.

Another must-try is Sinigang, a sour and savory soup that comes in various forms, most commonly with pork, shrimp, or fish. The tamarind-based broth, often enhanced with vegetables like kangkong, radish, and tomatoes, is incredibly refreshing and a staple in Filipino households. It’s a perfect dish to enjoy, especially after a day of exploring.

For those seeking something a bit more adventurous, Lechon is a celebratory dish that's worth seeking out. This roasted whole pig, with its incredibly crispy skin and succulent meat, is a Filipino favorite for gatherings. While a whole lechon might be too much for a solo traveler, many restaurants offer lechon portions or lechon kawali (crispy fried pork belly) which provides a similar delightful crunch and rich flavor.

Don't leave Pasay without trying Halo-Halo for dessert. This iconic Filipino treat is a delightful mix of shaved ice, milk, sweet beans, fruits, jellies, leche flan, and ube ice cream. It’s a perfect way to cool down and satisfy your sweet tooth, offering a symphony of textures and flavors in every spoonful.

Local Culture, Safety Tips, and Essential Apps for Pasay

Understanding local customs can enhance your experience in Pasay. Filipinos are generally known for their hospitality and politeness. Using "po" and "opo" when speaking to elders or those in authority is a sign of respect. Always greet people warmly, and be mindful of personal space, though Filipinos tend to be quite friendly and approachable.

When it comes to safety, Pasay is generally safe for tourists, especially in well-trafficked areas like those around SM Mall of Asia. However, like any major city, it's wise to be aware of your surroundings. Keep your valuables secure, especially in crowded places, and avoid displaying expensive items. It’s also advisable to use reputable transportation services like taxis hailed from official stands or ride-sharing apps.

For emergencies, remember that the national emergency number is 911. It's also helpful to have the contact details of your embassy or consulate readily available. For your travel needs, several apps can be incredibly useful. Grab is essential for transportation and food delivery. Google Maps is invaluable for navigation. You might also find apps like Weather PH useful for checking local weather conditions.
