The bathroom is clean while the hot water and bath gel are always available, the room and the bed are neat, and the whole hostel spaces have lively vibes. The staffs are very helpful and warm. The (free) breakfast menus are also good. The bar view is great although a bit crowded. It is a very nice location to enjoy the district but it's still at least 20 mins walk from the nearest MRT Station (Buendia/Guadalupe), Angkas (motorbike service) may help. Also, don't forget to bring your own lock for your locker. Overall, Z Hostel is a very worth-it place to stay in its value for money.

Your Travel Guide to Makati as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to Makati from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

For convenient booking, book flight tickets through Traveloka and compare fares across major airlines.

For travelers coming from other parts of the Philippines, flying into Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) in Manila is the most common and efficient method. Major domestic airlines operate frequent flights to Manila from key cities like Cebu, Davao, and Iloilo. Fares can vary significantly depending on the season and how far in advance you book, but budget airlines often offer fares starting from PHP 1,500 to PHP 3,000 for a round trip.

Once you land at NAIA, you have several options to reach Makati. Taxis and ride-sharing services like Grab are readily available and will cost approximately PHP 300 to PHP 500, depending on traffic. Public transportation is also an option; you can take an airport bus or a jeepney route that connects to the MRT or LRT lines, which can then take you closer to Makati. This is a more economical choice, with total travel costs potentially under PHP 100.

If you are traveling from Luzon, particularly from Northern or Central Luzon, bus travel is a viable and budget-friendly alternative. Numerous bus companies offer routes to Metro Manila terminals, with fares typically ranging from PHP 500 to PHP 1,000 for a one-way trip, depending on the origin city and bus class. From the bus terminal, you can then take a taxi, ride-sharing service, or public transport to reach your specific destination in Makati. Planning your journey and booking flight tickets in advance can often lead to significant savings.

Best Time to Visit Makati

The Philippines experiences a tropical climate, and Makati is no exception. The best time to visit for most Filipino travelers seeking pleasant weather is during the dry season, which generally runs from November to April. During these months, you can expect lower humidity levels and less rainfall, making it ideal for outdoor activities, exploring the city on foot, and enjoying the various attractions Makati has to offer.

The peak tourist season often coincides with the cooler, drier months, particularly from December to February. This is also when many local holidays and festivities occur, adding to the city's lively atmosphere. However, accommodation prices and crowds can be higher during this period. For those looking to avoid the largest crowds and potentially find better deals on accommodation, the shoulder months of November and March to April can offer a good balance.

The wet season, from May to October, brings with it higher humidity and frequent rain showers, sometimes heavy and prolonged. While this period might deter some tourists, it can be a good time for budget-conscious travelers to visit, as prices for flights and hotels may be lower. Despite the rain, many of Makati's attractions are indoors, and the city continues to function normally.

Food and Dining Near Makati — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

Makati is a culinary hub, offering a vast array of Filipino dishes that showcase the country's rich flavors. When you're in the area, make sure to try Adobo, the unofficial national dish, a savory and tangy stew of meat (often chicken or pork) braised in soy sauce, vinegar, garlic, and peppercorns. It’s a comforting and familiar taste for many Filipinos.

Another must-try is Sinigang, a sour and savory soup, typically made with tamarind broth, meat (pork, beef, or fish), and a variety of vegetables like kangkong, radish, and tomatoes. Its distinct sourness is incredibly refreshing, especially on a warm day. For those who enjoy grilled specialties, Lechon Kawali, deep-fried crispy pork belly, offers a delightful crunch and rich flavor that is a staple in Filipino gatherings.

Don't leave without sampling La Paz Batchoy, a hearty noodle soup originating from Iloilo, made with pork, shrimp, and vegetables, often topped with crispy pork cracklings. Its complex flavors and satisfying texture make it a beloved comfort food. For dessert, Halo-Halo, a popular mixed-fruit dessert with shaved ice, milk, sweet beans, fruits, and topped with leche flan and ube ice cream, is the perfect way to cool down.

Local Culture, Safety Tips, and Essential Apps for Makati

Filipino culture is known for its warmth and hospitality. When interacting with locals in Makati, a polite greeting like "Magandang araw" (Good day) or "Salamat" (Thank you) goes a long way. Respect for elders and a generally amiable demeanor are highly valued. While Makati is generally safe, especially in commercial areas, it's always wise to remain aware of your surroundings, particularly in crowded places.

Keep your belongings secure and be cautious of petty theft. It's advisable to avoid displaying expensive items openly. For emergencies, the general emergency number in the Philippines is 911. Having a local SIM card can be very useful for communication and accessing data. Consider downloading essential apps like Grab for transportation and food delivery, Google Maps for navigation, and a translation app if you plan to interact extensively in local dialects.

When using public transport or taxis, ensure the meter is used or agree on a fare beforehand to avoid overcharging. Staying informed about local events and any advisories can also enhance your travel experience and safety. Familiarizing yourself with basic Filipino phrases can also enrich your interactions with the local community.

It's a traveler's hostel so it's not for picky people. There's one bathroom in the room, which is good, and the beds are comfortable. I didn't like the breakfast restaurant as much because it felt too dark and cold, but the food was satisfactory. The coffee tasted really bad, burnt/bitter when I was there. I'd still come back and stay here but I'd get my coffee somewhere else.

Overrated. Building looks nice from the outside and the rooftop is a nice touch but not enough to make up for the poorly maintained sleeping areas and bathrooms. Staff could be warmer and friendlier. The AC was so noisy in our room. Yes, there's free breakfast and sunset cocktail, but I expected more for a place that charges what it does.

Not the first time I’ve stayed, each and every time always pleasant! Staff are helpful and friendly. Convenient to everywhere. Rooms are well kept and cleaned everyday. Great place to stay short or long term!

I stayed here because of my training. Everything’s good not until some of my roommates turns off the aircon just because they feel cold. Woke up in midnight because it’s super hot. Breakfast Buffet is awesome. Just add something new on the menu! Thankyou Z! Will definitely recommend this to my friends.

it's just a typical place to stay. nothing new its just like any other place. We stayed for just one night just to have a place to sleep. The room is boring no TV. just a bed ang AC and of course bathroom and that's it. I mean if the client would like to have place to stay with, this hostel is not so much good. The bar yes they have but compare to any other hostel this place is nothing. Sorry but I am just saying my opinion about this place.

Didn’t expect that this hostel will going to be very nice as it is very affordable. It is “sulit”, neat and cozy. I enjoyed my stay.

Very strategic location - near almost every place you need to visit in makati. A bit warning though, if you want to have a peaceful sleep, do not book the social room (floor below the rooftop). The people from the front desk will inform you about it, so fret not.

Perfect for solo or group travellers. The hostel is well-managed; it's very clean and the free breakfast is good. If you're easily bothered by noise, request your room to be on the lower floors because the rooftop bar is noisy from 9pm onwards. Otherwise, I had a good experience!

I found coackroach in the bathroom and the bathroom is smelly. The bed is making sound when we are moving and it's quite annoying. Anyway, the place is good for people who love bar and pub.

A clean, just right space, peaceful backpacking hostel which caters to both conservative and more outgoing people/tourists in the Metro.

It was very pleasant to stay at Z Hostel, breakfast and bar above the roofdeck are available, and we can take a free walking tour around the hostel. Perfect area for those who like to party.

Booked here 3 times this year. Atmosphere was great, staffs are great everything is great. If you're a backpacker and looking for an accommodation near Makati this would be it. They have a locker for your valuables make sure to bring a lock with you. Their bunk beds are cozy and neat. Respect one another during the stay and Enjoy.

The hostel look same as the app pictures. I love the ambience. since it was a hostel, it full of young people, but they have private room too. they have party bar over the rooftoop, you can smoke there. breakfast was good. I have no complaint.
