Monte do Zambujeiro

Monica and her staff are wonderful, the property is beautiful, quiet and peaceful. Breakfast is delicious and generous. For us, after 3.5 weeks of busy travel this was a perfect location to chill. We hung out during the day at the beaches, returned to shower and go back to town for dinner. It’s only 12 min to town/beach. Great place to stay, highly recommend!

There has always been a swampy sadness for me about these riparian landscapes such as the traveler finds at this bend of the Rio Mira. In this case, the Monte do Zambujeiro offers little to lift his mood. Perhaps Jose Saramago would have found a kernel here with which he could identify the "real" Alentejo as he made his way to Portugal early in the post-Salazar times. But today the traveler is greeted with a tired bed, a restaurant only open by special arrangement, and a hospitality that one may courteously describe as perfunctory and transactional. The traveler and his companion were reminded more than once of the check-out time (11 a.m.) and were careful to depart at 10:50 a.m. both to make the point and to be spared being tossed out like used linen. Others chasing the ghost of Portugal's literary Nobelist around the country may choose to stop and stay here, but this traveler will pass on doing so again, instead making his way on to a more comfortable place at which he and his companion may lay there weary heads. It takes the fullness of time to create a property that is memorable and worth visiting; it need not be the work of generations to provide a warm and generous hospitality.

room very clean, spacious and beautiful view from the terrace. WIFI not always available, tv not working. It did not matter because we did not spend much time in the room.Staff very helpful, breakfast very good and we will remember always the amazing cakes available in the living room! We will return.

Monica's personal touch - she met us at the entrance off the main road and we followed her to the accomodation. She also took us to refuel the car and even printed our boarding passes for our return trip home.

When we checked in for our stay, we were told we had the best place and it was great. Two level suite with kitchen. Beautiful view overlooking the the river valley and about 10 minute drive to beach town with many restaurants. It’s way off the beaten path, down a dirt road that may me a touch hard to find. The breakfast was good. Only real big fault was no wifi in the suite, had to go to office and sit outside after office had closed. Great place to bring in some groceries and stay a couple days. And a quick note, check in ends at 6pm and no one is around at night, they do give you a number to call if you need it.

Fantastic location. 5 min drive to the wonderful beaches & very close to Vn Milfontes. Views are spectacular & has the feel of a very remote place. We have been twice now & would certainly recommend. Hospitable staff & lovely cakes. Breakfast is superb

This little patch of heaven was a tranquil retreat like nothing I have ever experienced before. Once you find it (and it's not easy...see below for directions) you enter an oasis of peace. The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful, the rooms are spacious although the bed was pretty hard but the panoramic views over the river valley below, matched with the absolute quiet and stillness, make it impossible not to relax and shift into a lower gear. Breakfast under the willow tree watching the very occasional boat drift up the river is the best way to start the day. Loved our stay here. Would highly recommend it to anyone looking to get away from it all. The nearest town offers a few restaurants and, as long as you don't expect Michelin Star, then you will be fine. Ask for restaurant recommendations from the staff - we were sent to a restaurant on a cliff top out of town that had fabulous views and great fish. Directions: As you approach Vila Nova de Milfontes from the north, do not go into the down, instead carry on down the main road and cross the river. There road goes uphill straight after the bridge and at the top of the hill, there's an unmade road on the left - turn down here and the hotel entrance is the second turning left (about half a mile). Follow this road to the end and the hotel is there. Enjoy, unwind and relax.

O lugar é incrível, um reduto de paz e natureza. Atendimento espetacular.

Endroit très calme, en pleine nature. Très bon petit déjeuner, personnel disponible et n’hésitait pas à nous recommander restaurants et endroits à visiter.

Vackert beläget, fin pool och god frukost. Rummet vi fick låg dock fem min promenad från reception och pool.

Prachtige lokatie, en toch nabij een dorp met alle voorzieningen.

Super schön gelegen an ruhiger Lage, absolut traumhaft für Geniesser. Einziges Manko: unsere Wohnung war zwar absolut niedlich, aber das Bett ist bloss 1.4 m breit und knarrt. Der Wohnbereich war in unserem Appartement auch eher unbrauchbar mit einer nicht zweckmässigen Couch. Trotzdem: wir fanden es sehr schön und die Lage ist wie oben erwähnt super. Der Preis könnte unter Berücksichtigung dieser Einwände rund 10 bis 15% tiefer sein.

Hotelanlage liegt etwas außerhalb vom Hauptort und ist nur mit dem Navi auffindbar. Dafür war der Empfang herzlich und die Unterkunft sehr schön und geschmackvoll eingerichtet. Wir haben uns sehr wohl gefühlt und das Frühstück war sehr gut. Rührei wurde frisch auf Wunsch zubereitet, ebenso war ein frisch gepresster Orangensaft selbstverständlich - alles super :-)

Accueil parfait, petit-déjeuner devant le panorama magnifique, nous avions un petit appartement avec deux chambres et une cuisine parfaitement équipée. Terrasse et salon de jardin privative. Le lieu aspire au calme et à la détente, nous avons beaucoup apprécié de nous retrouver dans un coin un peu reculé mais à proximité de tout.

Foi um pouco difícil encontrar à primeira. Falta informação na estrada. O espaço da recepção poderia ser maior e mais apelativo. O quarto estava impecavelmente limpo e o pormenor do bolo a chegada bem como fruta, agua no quarto, faz toda a diferença. Difícil não se sentir acarinhada, para não falar da senhora que nos preparou o café da manha que não deixou que nada faltasse. Vista fabulosa sobre o rio mira!

Apenas para uma noite foi bom, apesar da condição do quarto ser ótima, o hotel não tem estrutura de apoio algum. Péssimo café da manhã e total abandono a noite.

Das Hotel liegt ca. 5 Autominuten von Milfontes entfernt. Nach einer Fahrt über eine holprige unbefestigte Strasse erreicht man zuerst das Gebäude mit den drei Studios und einem gemeinsamen Aufenthaltsraum, etwas weiter unten ist wohl das hauptsächliche Hotel mit der Rezeption, dem Restaurant und dem Pool. Die Angestellten waren sehr freundlich, viele sprachen aber kein Englisch. Wir waren zunächst alleine im Gebäude mit den Studios. Um etwa Mitternacht haben wir einen riesen Lärm vernommen und Babygeschrei gehört. Das ging leider die halbe Nacht so weiter, denn das Hotel ist sehr hellhörig. Das Frühstück wird zwischen 09.00 und 11.00(oder 11.30?) angeboten. Um 09.10 war leider noch niemand im Aufenthaltsraum, also warteten wir. Ein wenig später kam eine nette ältere Dame und machte und Frühstück, so dass wir um etwa 09.30 Uhr doch noch etwas zu Essen gekriegt haben und unsere Reise fortsetzen konnten. Die Studios sind sehr schön und modern eingerichtet, der Aufenthaltsraum verfügt auch über einen Fernseher und Radio und eine Selbstbedienungsbar.
