Best guesthouse ever! A home away from home, wonderful staff, good food and even it is a bit from downtown, that does not really matter in Kigali as everything is so spread out. And the owner Patrick is the best. Book him for a day sightseeing in town, and he shows you all the good spots for culture, eating and drinking. I am a journalist, and have seldom had a better and more knowledgeable guide.

The guesthouse is exceptionally clean and the gardens are beautiful and peaceful. I spent many hours just relaxing there. They have good wifi and a bar with a wide selection of beer. The food is well-prepared and the kitchen staff is very accommodating. The guesthouse is out of the way. You can walk into town in about 20 minutes, but the house is on a dirt road for the first part of your walk. After that the walk is easy. There are not many choices for food within a 10 minute walk although there is (usually) a chef on staff to make you a meal. The staff is able to arrange transportation for you into town but note that many Moto drivers may not know the location of the guesthouse when you are trying to get back, so make sure to take the address with you. You would probably have better luck with a taxi although that would be more expensive. The staff is helpful if you ask them, but if you are used to staff approaching you to see if you doing well, you will need to temper that expectation. I did have a shirt lost in their laundry there, but they were very helpful in working that out with me. Note that some rooms do not have a bathroom, so you would be sharing one with other guests. This wasn't a problem for me, but you may want to ask when you are booking a room. Overall, the guesthouse is a good choice for a comfortable, clean budget accommodation (if you don't mind that it is somewhat out of the way) and a very relaxing place to stay.

The profile provided by Expedia for the guest house as best deal and well rated seemed false to me, another registered guest with me, and the local driver who drove us in from the airport. The location is quite remote from the city, unpaved and dusty access road for quite a bit of the distance, and surroundigs and waiting area of substandard appearance. Given this shocking situation, we decided against looking at the bedroom, eating the dinner we had pre-requested; we did not check in. This was about 10pm. With the help of our driver we found and checked into the first hotel with room availability that was safe, tidy and close to the city center- for a room rate more than double Yambi Guesthouse rate

We stayed in a couple of other hotels in Kigali before making it to Yambi, and it really opened up the city to us. It was really comfortable, we felt like we were in Rwanda, and the staff and food was great! We got good guidance from the folks running Yambi on how to move around the city more easily and they basically filled up our evenings with recommendations that were all solid. I couldn't recommend Yambi more highly- really great!

The Yambi Guesthouse had a lovely at-home feeling. The staff and other guests were all super friendly and welcoming. Patrick the manager had a wealth of knowledge to share and helped us to get organized each day. He was also very interesting to chat with. Linda (not sure of her title) also helped us with organizing a day trip to the national wildlife reserve the night beforehand - everything she did was quick, efficient and friendly. Alphonse and Anastace cooked us so much delicious food and I enjoyed chatting with them. The location is a bit out of the way, but taxis and moto-taxis can be arranged and the public bus is nearby as well. The room was comfortable and quiet and the property has a lovely view of Kigali too.
