St. Christopher's Inn Edinburgh - Hostel

Decent enough, staff was kind and the curtains were a great addition but unfortunately had one of the most vile smelling guests in the shared 8 bed room and i wanted to smother myself with a pillow, it was so foul it clung to the whole room

It’s a backpackers hotel with tons of young people but also a lot of oldies like us. We booked one of the private rooms with an ensuite bathroom that included sheets and towels so we were fine with that. They have a locker room to store your luggage if you arrive before the 3 pm which they are very strict about. It was a dumb system for checkin because everyone had to stand in a long line when checkin started. Also I had done the pre-checkin online “to save time” but they made me present our passports anyway. Breakfast was a madhouse with all the young people but there were adequate continental items. The location is the main reason we picked it. It’s right next to the train station.

Helpful Staff and generally well situated

The room was too small for 6 people. No space to even open our luggage. We had 2 (3 people) bunk beds in a tiny room. Not comfortable at all.

Good, but could be better. It’s ok if you’re staying only one or two nights

If you dont mind sharing a dorm...this is the perfect place to spend the night after walking round the beautiful city of Edinburgh. A bed bathroom,shower,locker for your belongings....the breakfast across the road in Belushi's You want to visit Edinburgh on a budget I would highly recommend here. I will be back ...for longer next time.

A lot of food choices like ham and bread. Living in a central of city centre, very convenience. Close to the castle.

We booked a double room but on arrival were given bunk beds. I think we should have been offered money back.

Very friendly staff! However, overall felt on-edge the whole time. Mixed dorm had very cramped bathroom, and the only other toilet facility on my floor was also mixed, which I wasn’t too keen on as a solo female traveler. It meant there wasn’t any space I could go to be away from men if I needed or wanted to. Lobby was inviting but “chill out room” has a strange setup and wasn’t all that conducive to “hanging out”. At least it had a kettle and microwave! Overall, if you are a solo female traveler and you are spending your hard-earned money to explore beautiful Edinburgh, save a bit more for a better hostel.

Use this bargain venue for when I can’t get back home to Fife , really great central location and lovely welcoming staff

Staff were so friendly and helpful. About as comfortable as a hostel could be. No toiletries in the showers but not a problem.

Great location, economical, in reasonable shape

Lovely place, BEST CHEAP BREAKFAST I'VE EVER HAD, in the posh bar across the street. PRIME LOCATION. Kind staff. I wish hostels would check people in throughout the day instead of forcing a long queue at 3pm. With today's tech they could issue a key card that allowed no access until 3pm, and they could text you your room number then. The 4-person room was very tight, had no ventilation or AC, and had zero usable storage space because underbed lockers did not allow for larger items that otherwise could have been shoved under the bed. As there are lockers available in the nice hang-out room, underbed cages are silly. There was no paper toweling in the guest kitchen after midnight so I had to swipe a roll of TP from the common WC to dry my dishes.
