Our check-in was fantastic as we were provided some options for things to do and sights to see. The hotel is conveniently located in a cute square with multiple restaurants and the hotel’s restaurant has fabulous Mushroom risotto and Aperol Spritz.

charming hotel, front desk guy was SO helpful & nice. it is hard to find - i stopped at a pharmacy to ask for location, they didn't know & it was about 3 minute walking beyond. to find it, you can walk from the train station (10-15 min) towards the main plaza, keep going almost to the end. on the right tucked in the back, after the shops, is the entrance. only complaint is no tv channels in english. which normally isn't important, except that everything in the town except restaurants closes by 6pm so relaxing in the evening with tv is not going to happen. otherwise, loved it!

Family owned, amazing stay and gracious hosts. The co-owner, (Manuel) was helpful planning our stay and was so excited to show us his hotel. From the unique Grotto, its history to the history of Lacarno. His English was impeccable and we felt very welcome and relaxed.

Nice bathroom small room .. No air conditioning no mini fridge...the room was clean with a broken fan in it. You just pay the position of the hotel for me that i stayed a few hours no value for money

The room was fine for the 3 of us (parents and one child). However, it was quite hot. There was an air conditioner in the small part of the room, but it did not cool the whole place and they turned it off when we were away. The fans in the room would have helped to spread the cool from the A/C if only their were enough power outlets to plug them in. Also, the A/C filled with water, put a puddle on the floor, and turned off. I managed to figure out how to service it and got it going again. We were there at the time of the Film Festival, which was great, albeit quite loud at night, when the films were on in the Grande Piazza. Can't complain about that, as we knew what we were into when we booked. Just fair warning.

I chose Hotel America because of its address (Piazza Grande, no # given). That is a bit of a misnomer: the only part of the establishment fronting the Piazza is the narrow end of its restaurant, the rest being tucked in the narrow, winding, cobblestone streets of the old city. Fair enough. For what it charges, though, and for a supposed three-star hotel, it's hard to see the correlation. The rooms are quite exiguous, the shower stall so small it's hard to slither into, the amenities not plentiful, the TV screen quite small with half of the channels non-functional (but at least CNN & BBC1 were available). No on-demand movies, though. Not quite what was hoped for. No AC at all; this was not a problem in mid-October, though the room was a bit on the chilly side. The location is certainly good, but there is no parking. Clients can get a daily rate of Sfr. 19.- (a bargain in Switzerland) at the Casino/Centro Parking garage, a 5-min. walk away. All-in-all, a bit overpriced & overrated for what is offered, but not a bad solution.

Albergio Americano provided a good hotel room, which was not large, but my choice was the cheapest room they had. The room and bathroom seemed pretty clean, but the floor was a bit sticky. Staff was very friendly, welcoming, and the lady at the desk could speak English, French, German and Italian. The included breakfast was healthy, with a selection of breads and croissants, cold meats, some soft cheeses, fruits, orange juice and coffee. Overall, it was a good deal.

We did not have a car, so the location of the hotel was perfect. A few minutes from a bus stop, as well as the train station (which has a great tourist office by the way) and a little bit futher the port. The staff was very kind and helpfull. I would recommend to take the breakfast with your package, worth it. We had a great time. I just want to mention that the hotel is not directly on Piazza Grande, but slitly in the back between to larg building. I guess it is an old bulding remodeled. I don't think you can see the Piazza from the hotel but you are there to visit not sit in your room.

The staff was great and this was an excellent location right on the main piazza but set back a bit so the rooms were quiet. The staff was very friendly and everyone went out of their way. The rooms are simple but clean and attractive. TV with cable and perfectly fine bathroom. A great breakfast was included. I would stay here again and again.

The hotel is located just off the Piazza Grande which is fantastic. All the rooms have been newly renovated and are nicely decorated in clean white, with nice and modern bathroom amenities. However, the room I stayed in (n°36) was rather on the small side.The bed is very large and comfortable though. All the windows are soundproof. My reservation included breakfast but I did not try it and the hotel also offers a pizzeria on the ground floor which seemed quite busy in the evening but I didn't try out either. The hotel staff is very helpful and friendly. I'd definitely recommend this hotel.

Posizione ottima. Sulla piazza centrale,ma ben insonorizzata dai rumori esterni. Scomoda al 4 piano, l ascensore arriva solo al 3. La nosrra stanzacera in mansarda, proprio a tetto,. La pecca piu grande è l odore di mangiare perenne, h24,dai corridoi fino alla camera. Per il resto. Potrebbero migliorare tante cose...cmq in generale non male.
