Overall, the hotel was nice. We were o lay there for one day so it wasn't that big of a deal. The room was way too small to be a triple. The hotel staff also never mentioned that you have to turn on a switch to get hot water. The phone didn't work so we had to go down to ask. They also only had two sets of towels for three people so we had to get more. Breakfast was included, but the food was tasteless. It's very close to the port which is good for the ferry to Zanzibar. The wifi worked well.

New Avon is conveniently located downtown within walking distance of restaurants and shops, Zanzibar ferry etc.
Its not the high end international luxury style hotel, but is priced accordingly. Comfortable, clean, internet is free and works in room, breakfast is decent, staff are very friendly. I would recommend to travelers to dar es salaam that are looking for the middle ground between budget and luxury accommodation.

Rooms are very small and don't look anything as nice as the pictures. We had broken items in the bathroom and no Toilet paper. Had to ask for more. Linens were not very good quality and beds very hard. Breakfast was average at best with a very limited selection of fruits, breads and cereals. They only had instant coffee. Staff at the front were friendly but not the breakfast waiters.

The hotel was in good condition and clean. Breakfast was not as good as most hotels in this price range, but ok. Food pretty good. Rooms clean and great showers! The staff was friendly and helpful. Wifi worked in my room - which is an unusual benefit.

I stay in this hotel before an was very happy with the room for the money. Clean, tidy, on suite room which was excellent value. This time I found the room not so good. The wall paper was peeling from the walls. The windows looked directly into to the next door high rise that is under construction and there wasn't any hot water. The other room was much better. Still for the money and for one night it was completely fine and generally the staff are very nice and helpful.

only for its distance -close to airport, otherwise not recommended. The condition of the hotel - poor - wallpaper falling off, no chair in the room, decoration is dull - the room is rather small but the furniture is in dark colour, making the room appears even small. No amenities provided. Restaurant only serves breakfast but not meals. Not a 4 star hotel but a two star hostel. Barely acceptable.

I stayed at New Avon Hotel upon arrival from a long flight. I found it to be comfortable enough, and as I had a room on an upper floor,very quiet. It was very clean and the bathroom appeared new. I found the situation useful, as it was convenient for the Ferry Port, about ten to fifteen minutes walk away.

At the end of our 3 week Africa safari/scuba trip to TZ, we chose this hotel for our last night prior to departure out of DAR. The staff was friendly and cordial, however anything to be fixed, wasn't. Cable TV, internet and safe were out. Even the water was off on the day of departure, however we did get a bucket of water to wash off with. We were told that it would be working in a couple hours but never was. Downtown locations are to be avoided, (noisy, traffic, loudspeakers, etc.) Unless you are there on business, avoid staying downtown...

The area is downtown Dar es Salaam, so very noisy area. The view is onto old buildings. The breakfats choice is poor.

I must have shown up to this hotel in a transition period because my experience was awful. My hotel room was dusty and I took a shower with flip flops on because I didn't trust the cleanliness. The next day the A/C malfunctioned and I can back to my room with a dismantled A/C, and then waited about 45 minutes before a hotel employee came over to help me move luggage to a new room. The new room was just as dusty and then one of the pillows still had makeup stains. And that did it for me, never staying there again EVER.
