The employee informed me that the Private zone is a new zone that the hotel has taken over, which is right at the front entrance of the hotel. It is the furthest zone from the beach, but also the most private. You can reserve a Private Pool Deluxe room for 3,012 baht per night, including breakfast. The room has a double bed and an extra bed. Seriously, it can sleep 3-4 people. As for the bathroom, Outside is a semi-open air zone, which is surrounded by walls that are completely closed off. But the roof is only half. The shower room and toilet are separated. There is a bathtub and a minimalist Jacuzzi pool. If you are too lazy to walk, you can call the reception to have a buggy come pick you up. Breakfast has a medium-sized selection. There is fresh coffee available for pressing and a Twining tea booth as well. The dining room zone is Open Air, which is a bit hot, but the fan helps a little. We ate dinner at the seaside zone of the hotel. There is a cocktail bar and fusion food. Thai-Italian If you stay here you will also get a 20% discount card. During Happy Hour there is a promotion buy 1 Mocktail/Cocktail get 1 free. There are 2 swimming pools, one on the beach and the private zone where we are staying, located opposite. In addition, I got a Spa/Massage card 1 get 1 free (it's a massage program priced at 2,500 baht for 2 people) but didn't use this service. The staff were very attentive and attentive, always smiling. If I forgot something, I called to inform them to come and get it back. Plus, put it in a bag neatly. The Buggy Man guys who are waiting to pick you up are all cute. It was a good experience staying here and visiting Koh Lanta for the first time in my life.

Travellers who appreciate a refined yet relaxed setting, often those from European markets seeking a sophisticated island escape, will find Kaw Kwang Beach a particularly appealing choice for their Koh Lanta Yai holiday.

Long Beach (Phra Ae Beach)

Long Beach, also known as Phra Ae Beach, is one of Koh Lanta Yai's most popular stretches of sand, living up to its name with its expansive shoreline. It strikes a fantastic balance between offering a lively atmosphere with numerous restaurants, bars, and shops, and maintaining a relaxed island vibe. Many restaurants along Klong Dao Beach and Long Beach also offer a wide array of Thai dishes, often with stunning sea views. For Muslim travellers, seeking out restaurants that clearly label Halal options or inquiring about preparation methods is advisable, as many local eateries are accommodating.

Tipping is not mandatory but is appreciated for excellent service, with a small amount (around 10% or a few baht) being customary. Cultural Norms and Staying Safe in Koh Lanta Yai

Understanding local customs is key to a respectful and enjoyable visit to Koh Lanta Yai. Thais are generally very polite and value a calm demeanour. It's customary to remove your shoes before entering someone's home or a temple, and to dress modestly when visiting religious sites. Public displays of affection are generally frowned upon, and it's considered rude to point your feet at people or religious icons. Always use your right hand when giving or receiving items, as the left hand is traditionally considered unclean.

When visiting popular spots like Lanta Sand Resort & Spa or Long Beach Chalet, maintaining respectful behaviour is appreciated. While these are tourist-oriented establishments, adhering to local norms, such as dressing appropriately for hotel restaurants (avoiding swimwear), will be well-received. Photography of individuals, especially monks or local people, should always be done with permission. Queue culture is less rigid than in some Western countries, so patience and politeness are your best tools.

Koh Lanta Yai is generally a safe destination for international travellers, but standard precautions should always be taken. Keep your valuables secure and be aware of your surroundings, especially in crowded markets or at night. While ride-hailing apps like Grab are available and reliable, local tuk-tuks and songthaews (shared taxis) are also common and affordable for getting around. It's wise to agree on a fare before starting your journey with independent drivers.

In case of emergencies, dial 191 for general police assistance. For tourist-specific issues, the Tourist Police can be a valuable resource. While there isn't a Philippine Embassy on Koh Lanta Yai itself, the Philippine Embassy in Bangkok is the primary point of contact for Filipino citizens requiring consular assistance. It's always recommended for Filipino travellers to register their trip with the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) and consider travel insurance for peace of mind.

Getting to Koh Lanta Yai and Getting Around

Reaching Koh Lanta Yai from the Philippines involves a flight to Krabi International Airport (KBV) or Trang Airport (TST) on the Thai mainland, followed by a transfer. Flights from Manila (MNL) or Cebu (CEB) typically involve one or two layovers, often in Bangkok (BKK). The total travel time can range from 8 to 15 hours, with flight prices varying but generally falling between ₱ 15,000 to ₱ 30,000 for a round trip, depending on the season and booking time. From Krabi or Trang airport, you'll need to arrange a minivan and ferry combination or a private transfer to reach Koh Lanta Yai, which takes approximately 2-3 hours. It's advisable to book flight tickets well in advance for better rates.

Once you arrive on Koh Lanta Yai, getting around is relatively straightforward. The most common modes of transport are songthaews (converted pickup trucks with benches), which operate on fixed routes and can be hailed like taxis, and private taxis or tuk-tuks. Renting a scooter is also a popular option for independent exploration, offering flexibility to discover the island's hidden beaches and viewpoints. For longer distances or more comfort, car rentals are available. Fares are generally affordable, with short trips costing around ₱ 100-200 ($2-4 USD).

The best time to visit Koh Lanta Yai for international travellers is during the dry season, which runs from November to April. During these months, the weather is typically sunny with low humidity and calm seas, making it ideal for beach activities and island hopping. The shoulder months of November and April can offer a good balance of pleasant weather and fewer crowds. The wet season, from May to October, sees more rainfall, though showers are often brief and the island is significantly quieter and more affordable.

Before your departure for Koh Lanta Yai, ensure you have your passport with at least six months of validity remaining. The local currency is the Thai Baht (THB). While USD is accepted in some tourist establishments, it's best to exchange your currency for Baht upon arrival or use ATMs. Purchasing a local SIM card at the airport is recommended for easy data access and communication. Essential apps include Google Maps for navigation, a translation app, and Grab for ride-hailing.

Visa Information

For Philippine passport holders planning to visit Thailand to experience Koh Lanta Yai, visa requirements are generally straightforward. As of current regulations, Philippine citizens are typically granted visa-free entry into Thailand for tourism purposes for a stay of up to 30 days. This allows for a convenient and accessible travel experience without the need for pre-application for a visa. It is crucial, however, to ensure your passport has at least six months of validity beyond your intended stay.

The application process for visa-free entry is minimal upon arrival at Thai immigration checkpoints. You will likely be asked to present your passport and may need to show proof of onward travel, such as a return flight ticket, and potentially proof of sufficient funds for your stay. While no specific visa fee is charged for this visa exemption, it is always prudent to confirm the latest entry requirements with the Royal Thai Embassy or Consulate in the Philippines before your travel dates, as policies can change.

It is highly recommended that all travellers, including Filipino citizens, verify the most current visa regulations and entry requirements directly with the official immigration authority of Thailand or the Royal Thai Embassy in the Philippines before booking flights or making other travel arrangements. This proactive step ensures you are fully prepared and aware of any potential changes or specific documentation needed, guaranteeing a smooth and hassle-free journey to Koh Lanta Yai.
