This hotel definitely makes me feel satisfied with a reasonable price, clean room, hot water, and friendly, supportive staff. It just takes you around 3-5 minutes to walk from the hotel to BTS Saint Louis. This is a business area, so it’s quiet at night but still safe. If you travel alone and you want to have a quiet place to rest, this will be a good option.

Turns out it's a great location for enjoying Bangkok city. It is near the Saphan Taksin BTS for the rail mode and Sathorn Pier if you want to sail on Chao Phraya by boat. As Sathorn Pier is like a terminal for the boats, so lots of boats are stopping here. Other than that, the room is clean and big enough, the staffs are super helpful, the breakfast is good and it's near Cafe Amazon - good to catch a coffee before starting your day. Overall, I would come back to this hotel again.

More about hotels in Yan Nawa

Yan Nawa: A Gateway to Bangkok's Dynamic Heart

For travellers seeking an authentic slice of Thailand beyond the usual tourist trails, Yan Nawa presents a compelling proposition. This district, often overlooked in favour of more central Bangkok locales, offers a unique blend of urban convenience and local charm that resonates with international visitors. It’s a place where the pulse of the city beats strong, yet retains a distinct character, providing a more grounded experience of Thai life. From its accessible transport links to its burgeoning culinary scene, Yan Nawa serves as an excellent entry point for those wishing to explore the multifaceted allure of Thailand's capital.

The district's appeal lies in its internal diversity. Yan Nawa is not a monolithic entity but a collection of distinct neighbourhoods, each offering a different flavour of urban living. Whether you're drawn to the sleek modernity of its commercial hubs or the quieter, more residential pockets, Yan Nawa provides a spectrum of environments. This internal variation means that where you choose to base yourself within Yan Nawa can significantly shape your entire trip, offering tailored experiences for different preferences and travel styles, from business travellers to leisure explorers.

From a value perspective, Yan Nawa shines brightly for international visitors. With a starting price of just ₱ 230.10 per night and an impressive average review score of 8.7 from over 22,854 reviews, the district offers exceptional value for money. For travellers from the United States, Europe, and India, this translates into more affordable accommodation and dining options, allowing for a longer and richer exploration of Thailand's cultural and natural wonders without compromising on quality or experience.

The accommodation landscape in Yan Nawa mirrors this diversity, offering options to suit every budget and preference. Consider the Collection O The Step Sathorn, a well-regarded 3-star hotel providing essential amenities, or the Marvin Suites Bangkok Sathorn, a 3.5-star option known for its comprehensive facilities. These hotels, among many others, represent the accessible and quality lodging available, making it easier for travellers to book hotel stays that align with their travel plans and financial considerations.

Yan Nawa is a destination that caters to a broad spectrum of international travellers. For US and European visitors, it offers a sophisticated urban experience with easy access to cultural sites and modern amenities. Indian travellers will appreciate the connectivity, diverse dining options, and the excellent value for money. While direct connections for African travellers might be less common, Yan Nawa's position within Bangkok makes it a practical and rewarding base for exploring Southeast Asia, offering a comfortable and engaging introduction to Thailand.

Best Areas to Stay in Yan Nawa

Yan Nawa, while a distinct district, is comprised of several neighbourhoods, each possessing its own unique character and appeal for international visitors. Understanding these areas is key to unlocking the most rewarding stay, as your chosen base can significantly influence your daily experiences, from the local ambiance to the ease of accessing key attractions and transport links. Whether you seek vibrant city life or a more tranquil retreat, Yan Nawa's districts offer a diverse range of options.

Sathorn

Sathorn is the beating heart of Yan Nawa's commercial and business activity, presenting a sophisticated urban environment that appeals to international travellers seeking convenience and a taste of modern Bangkok. This area is characterized by its gleaming skyscrapers, upscale residences, and a dynamic atmosphere that buzzes with activity day and night. It’s an ideal base for business travellers and those who appreciate being at the centre of the action, with excellent connectivity to other parts of the city.

Within Sathorn, you'll find a concentration of high-quality hotels and a diverse culinary scene, ranging from international fine dining to local eateries. Its proximity to major transport hubs, including the Surasak BTS Station, makes exploring Bangkok effortless. For those interested in medical tourism or visiting loved ones, Saint Louis Hospital is also conveniently located here. Visitors can easily book attractions and explore the numerous shopping and entertainment venues that dot this bustling district.

Silom

Adjacent to Sathorn, Silom offers a slightly more eclectic and vibrant atmosphere, blending business with a lively nightlife and extensive shopping opportunities. This area is known for its bustling street markets, diverse restaurants, and a more energetic pace of life, making it attractive to travellers who enjoy a dynamic urban setting. Silom provides a rich sensory experience, from the aromas of street food to the dazzling lights of its entertainment venues, appealing to a wide range of international visitors.

Silom is a hub for both business and leisure, offering a wide array of dining options that cater to every palate, including many Halal-friendly establishments. Its excellent public transport links, including the BTS Skytrain and MRT subway, ensure easy access to all of Bangkok's major sights. Travellers can easily find accommodation here that suits their budget, from luxury hotels to more affordable guesthouses, making it a versatile choice for many international tourists. Charoen Krung

Charoen Krung, one of Bangkok's oldest and most historic roads, runs through Yan Nawa and offers a fascinating glimpse into the city's past. This area is a captivating mix of old and new, where traditional shophouses stand alongside modern developments. It appeals to travellers interested in culture, history, and authentic local experiences, providing a stark contrast to the more contemporary districts. Exploring Charoen Krung feels like stepping back in time, with its unique architectural heritage and traditional way of life.

This district is a rich collection for food lovers, boasting a legendary street food scene and numerous traditional restaurants serving classic Thai dishes. It's also home to various art galleries, antique shops, and cultural landmarks, offering a rich exploration for curious visitors. While public transport might be less direct than in Sathorn, the area is well-served by taxis and local buses, and its charm lies in leisurely exploration, perhaps by boat along the Chao Phraya River.

Riverside (Chao Phraya)

While not exclusively within Yan Nawa, the areas bordering the Chao Phraya River, accessible from Yan Nawa, offer a more serene and picturesque experience. This locale is characterized by its stunning river views, luxurious hotels, and a more relaxed pace compared to the city centre. It’s perfect for travellers seeking a tranquil escape with easy access to iconic landmarks and a different perspective of Bangkok's urban landscape, often favoured by those looking for a touch of elegance.

The Riverside offers a wealth of dining experiences, from riverside restaurants with breathtaking sunset views to charming local eateries. It's also a prime location for exploring historical sites like the Grand Palace and Wat Arun via river ferry. Many hotels in this area provide shuttle boat services, connecting guests to major piers and attractions. The accessibility via river transport adds a unique dimension to exploring the city, offering a refreshing alternative to road travel.

Phra Khanong (as a reference for contrast/broader Bangkok context)

While Phra Khanong is technically outside Yan Nawa, it's worth mentioning as a popular area in Bangkok that offers a different vibe, often attracting a younger, more bohemian crowd. It's known for its trendy cafes, vibrant street art, and a more laid-back, community-focused atmosphere. This area provides a contrast to the business-centric Sathorn or the historic Charoen Krung, showcasing the diverse urban fabric of the wider Bangkok metropolitan area.

Phra Khanong boasts a burgeoning food scene with numerous independent restaurants and cafes, popular among locals and expats alike. Its accessibility via the BTS Skytrain makes it a convenient base for exploring the city, though it offers a more residential feel than the central business districts. For travellers seeking a more local, artistic, and less tourist-heavy experience within the broader Bangkok context, Phra Khanong presents an interesting alternative.

Thonglor/Ekkamai (as a reference for contrast/broader Bangkok context)

Similar to Phra Khanong, Thonglor and Ekkamai are popular, upscale residential and lifestyle districts in Bangkok, known for their trendy restaurants, chic bars, and boutique shops. These areas offer a sophisticated urban experience, often favoured by expats and discerning travellers looking for a more refined atmosphere. They represent a different facet of Bangkok's cosmopolitan appeal, distinct from the business focus of Sathorn or the historical charm of Charoen Krung.

These districts are culinary hotspots, featuring a wide array of international and fusion cuisine, as well as stylish cafes and dessert parlours. While not directly in Yan Nawa, their popularity highlights the diverse urban experiences available within Bangkok. They are well-connected by public transport and offer a glimpse into Bangkok's modern, trend-setting lifestyle, appealing to travellers who appreciate contemporary design and a sophisticated social scene.

What to Eat and Where to Find It in Yan Nawa

Yan Nawa, like much of Bangkok, is a culinary destination, offering a diverse range of flavours that reflect Thailand's rich gastronomic heritage. From fiery curries and fragrant noodle dishes to fresh seafood and sweet tropical fruits, the district provides an authentic taste of Thai cuisine. While it may not have the same density of world-famous street food stalls as some other areas, Yan Nawa offers a genuine local dining experience, with many eateries serving traditional recipes passed down through generations.

For an authentic taste of local life, exploring the smaller sois (alleys) and neighbourhood markets within Yan Nawa is highly recommended. Areas around local temples or community centres often host small food vendors and eateries that are popular with residents. For Muslim travellers, finding Halal-certified restaurants might require a bit more searching, but Bangkok is increasingly accommodating, with many establishments offering clear labelling or willing to adapt dishes. It's always advisable to inquire politely about ingredients if you have specific dietary needs.

Dining in Yan Nawa offers excellent value for money, especially when compared to Western prices. Street food can be enjoyed for as little as ₱ 50-100 (approximately $1-2 USD), while a meal at a casual local restaurant might range from ₱ 150-300 ($3-6 USD). For a more upscale dining experience in a 4- or 5-star hotel, expect to pay upwards of ₱ 1,000-2,000 ($20-40 USD) per person, though this still represents good value for the quality and service offered.

When dining in Yan Nawa, embracing local customs enhances the experience. Meals are typically communal, with dishes shared among diners. It's customary to use a spoon and fork, with the fork used to push food onto the spoon. Tipping is not mandatory but is appreciated for excellent service, usually rounding up the bill or leaving a small amount. Be adventurous and try local specialties; the friendly nature of Thai people means most establishments are happy to help with ordering or recommendations.

Cultural Norms and Staying Safe in Yan Nawa

Understanding and respecting local customs is key to a smooth and enjoyable trip in Yan Nawa. Thais are generally very polite and value a calm demeanour. Public displays of affection are generally frowned upon, and it's important to dress modestly when visiting temples or more traditional areas, covering shoulders and knees. The head is considered sacred, so avoid touching anyone's head, and always remove your shoes before entering someone's home or a temple.

When visiting landmarks like Saint Louis Hospital or navigating busy areas around Surasak BTS Station, maintaining a respectful attitude is paramount. While hospitals are places of healing, maintaining a quiet and considerate presence is appreciated. At transport hubs like Surasak BTS Station, observe local queuing etiquette and be mindful of personal space, especially during peak hours. Photography is usually permitted in public areas, but it's always polite to ask permission before taking pictures of individuals.

Safety in Yan Nawa is generally good, but like any major city, it's wise to be aware of your surroundings. Keep valuables secure and be cautious of petty theft in crowded markets or on public transport. For reliable transportation, use metered taxis or reputable ride-hailing apps like Grab, which are widely available and offer transparent pricing. Familiarize yourself with basic Thai phrases or use a translation app, as this can be very helpful when interacting with locals or navigating unfamiliar areas.

In case of emergencies, the tourist police can be contacted at 1155. For medical assistance, Saint Louis Hospital is a well-regarded facility within the district. Filipino travellers should also be aware of the Philippine Embassy in Bangkok, which can provide assistance in emergencies. It's always recommended to have travel insurance that covers medical emergencies and unforeseen events, ensuring peace of mind throughout your stay in Yan Nawa and Thailand.

Getting to Yan Nawa and Getting Around

Reaching Yan Nawa from the Philippines is straightforward, with numerous flight options available from major hubs like Manila (MNL), Cebu (CEB), and Clark (CRK). While direct flights to Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK) are common, some may involve a layover. Flight durations typically range from 3.5 to 5 hours for direct flights, with prices varying based on the season and airline, but often starting from around ₱ 8,000 to ₱ 15,000 for a round trip. Upon arrival at BKK, Yan Nawa is approximately a 45-minute to 1-hour drive to the city centre, depending on traffic. You can book flight tickets conveniently on Traveloka for competitive rates.

Navigating Yan Nawa and the wider Bangkok area is made easy by an efficient public transportation system. The BTS Skytrain, with stations like Surasak, is a primary mode of transport, offering quick and air-conditioned travel above the city's notorious traffic. The MRT subway system also connects to key areas. For shorter distances or exploring local streets, tuk-tuks and metered taxis are readily available, though it's advisable to ensure taxis use their meter. Bus services are extensive and very affordable, though can be challenging for non-Thai speakers.

The best time to visit Yan Nawa generally falls within the cool, dry season, from November to February. During these months, temperatures are pleasant, averaging around 25-30°C (77-86°F), making it ideal for sightseeing and outdoor activities. The shoulder seasons, March to May (hot) and June to October (rainy), can also be good times to visit, often with fewer crowds and lower hotel prices, though travellers should be prepared for higher temperatures or potential rain showers.

Before your trip to Yan Nawa, ensure you have your passport with at least six months of validity remaining. The local currency is the Thai Baht (THB), and while major credit cards are accepted in hotels and larger establishments, carrying some cash is essential for markets and smaller vendors. Purchasing a local SIM card at the airport is recommended for easy data access. Essential apps include Google Maps for navigation, a translation app, and Grab for ride-hailing.

Visa Information

For Philippine passport holders planning a visit to Yan Nawa, Thailand, the visa requirements are generally straightforward for short tourist stays. As of current regulations, Philippine citizens are typically granted visa-exempt entry into Thailand for tourism purposes for a period of up to 30 days when arriving by air. This allows for a convenient and hassle-free entry for short holidays, making it easier for Filipinos to explore Yan Nawa and other parts of Thailand. Use Traveloka to find the best flights — book flight.

The process for visa-exempt entry involves presenting a valid Philippine passport with at least six months of remaining validity from the date of entry. Travellers may also be asked to show proof of onward travel, such as a return or onward flight ticket, and potentially proof of sufficient funds to cover their stay. While no specific visa fee is charged for this exemption, it is crucial to confirm the latest regulations with the Royal Thai Embassy or Consulate in the Philippines before your travel dates, as policies can change.

It is always recommended for travellers to verify the most up-to-date visa and entry requirements directly with the official immigration authorities of Thailand or the Royal Thai Embassy in the Philippines well in advance of booking flights. This ensures that you are aware of any specific documentation needed, such as proof of accommodation or financial means, and that your passport meets the validity requirements. Confirming these details beforehand will help guarantee a smooth entry into Thailand for your visit to Yan Nawa.

A very comfortable stay, friendly staff, and a very extensive daily breakfast menu. I initially planned to stay for two days, but then extended my stay for another two days and will stay at this hotel again when I visit Bangkok. The price is also very reasonable for the facilities.
