We stayed here with our family and booked two rooms—one for six people and another for two. The rooms were beautifully designed with a great layout, offering plenty of space. Every corner of the hotel was perfect for taking photos. Each room had a balcony, and there was also a kitchen equipped with plates, bowls, cutlery, and everything we needed to enjoy meals together. The hotel also has a swimming pool, and they even provide beautiful Moroccan- and Indian-style outfits for guests to wear and take photos around the property free of charge. The hotel is conveniently located near Pongyang Jungle Park. After enjoying the activities there, it was very relaxing to return to the hotel. For dinner, you can order food from 7-Eleven or via Grab, and the bellboy will deliver it right to your room. We also highly recommend trying Northern Thai food from Krua Hlong Khao—it was delicious. The staff were incredibly friendly and provided excellent service. The breakfast was also very tasty. Overall, it was great value for money, and we had a wonderful stay.

For travellers seeking a serene counterpoint to Thailand's more frenetic urban centres, Mae Rim offers a refreshing embrace of nature and culture. set in the verdant hills north of Chiang Mai, this district provides a distinct experience, moving beyond the typical tourist trails to reveal a landscape dotted with waterfalls, botanical gardens, and artisanal farms. It’s a place where the pace slows, allowing for genuine connection with the local environment and a deeper appreciation for Thai rural life, making it an appealing alternative for those who have explored the well-trodden paths of Bangkok or Phuket.

The charm of Mae Rim lies in its diverse geography, which translates into varied experiences across its distinct neighbourhoods. From the cooler, mountainous climes of Pong Yaeng, known for its stunning viewpoints and hot springs, to the more accessible agricultural plains of Mae Raem and the community-focused areas of Don Kaeo and Rim Tai, each locale offers a unique atmosphere. Understanding these differences is key to crafting a Mae Rim itinerary that perfectly matches your travel style, whether you seek adventure, relaxation, or cultural immersion.

With a starting price of just ₱ 675.62 per night and an impressive average review score of 8.5 from over 7,610 guest reviews, Mae Rim presents itself as an exceptionally good value destination for international travellers. For travellers from the US, Europe, India, and Africa, Mae Rim offers a compelling blend of natural beauty and cultural richness at a price point that is often more accessible than comparable destinations.

The accommodation landscape in Mae Rim mirrors its diverse appeal, ranging from luxurious retreats to charming homestays. Consider the exquisite Onsen @ Moncham, a 5-star hotel in Pong Yaeng offering private hot tubs and stunning mountain views, or the more budget-friendly Mon view ngam, a 3-star resort in Mae Raem that provides a comfortable base for exploring the region. These examples highlight the spectrum of choices available, ensuring that travellers can find the perfect place to stay, whether they are looking for a splurge or a more economical option. You can easily book hotel stays that suit your needs and budget.

Mae Rim truly caters to a broad spectrum of international visitors. Best Areas to Stay in Mae Rim

Mae Rim is not a monolithic destination; it's a region composed of distinct neighbourhoods, each offering a unique flavour and set of attractions. For international visitors, understanding these differences is crucial for selecting the ideal base that aligns with their travel aspirations. Whether you're drawn to the cooler mountain air, the proximity to natural wonders like Mae Sa Waterfall, or the convenience of local amenities, choosing the right area within Mae Rim can significantly shape your entire Thai adventure.

Pong Yaeng

Pong Yaeng, situated in the higher elevations of Mae Rim, offers a cooler climate and breathtaking natural scenery, making it a prime destination for those seeking tranquility and stunning vistas. This area is particularly appealing to travellers who appreciate nature, from the dramatic cascades of Mae Sa Waterfall to the unique landscapes surrounding Mon Cham. Its elevated position provides a sense of escape, attracting visitors looking for a peaceful retreat away from the more bustling parts of Thailand, including many European and American tourists seeking natural beauty.

From Pong Yaeng, easy access to attractions like the Mae Sa Elephant Camp and various botanical gardens is a significant advantage. The area is also home to numerous resorts and homestays that capitalize on the scenic surroundings, offering a range of accommodation options. Getting to Pong Yaeng typically involves a scenic drive from Chiang Mai International Airport, which is the most common entry point for international flights. For those looking to explore the natural wonders, it's advisable to book attractions in advance, especially during peak seasons.

Mae Raem

Mae Raem is a vibrant district that balances natural beauty with agricultural charm, serving as a gateway to many of Mae Rim's most popular natural attractions. It’s an area that appeals to travellers who enjoy a mix of outdoor activities and local culture, offering a more grounded experience than some of the higher-altitude resorts. The presence of attractions like the Maesa Elephant Camp and numerous flower gardens makes it a convenient base for families and adventure seekers, including many visitors from India and Southeast Asia who appreciate its accessibility and lively atmosphere.

This district is well-serviced by a variety of accommodations, from budget-friendly resorts to more comfortable mid-range options, catering to a wide range of travellers. Mae Raem is also a hub for local produce and crafts, offering opportunities to explore local markets and sample regional delicacies. Its proximity to Mae Sa Waterfall means that day trips to this natural wonder are straightforward. Transportation from Chiang Mai International Airport is readily available via taxi or pre-booked car services, making it a practical choice for first-time visitors.

Don Kaeo

Don Kaeo is a district that offers a more settled, community-oriented feel within Mae Rim, often characterized by its local markets, temples, and residential areas. While it may not boast the dramatic natural landscapes of Pong Yaeng, it provides a more authentic glimpse into daily life in the region. This area is suitable for travellers who prefer to stay closer to local amenities, enjoy exploring off-the-beaten-path spots, and appreciate a quieter, more residential atmosphere, potentially appealing to longer-staying visitors or those seeking a less tourist-centric experience.

Accommodation in Don Kaeo tends to be more varied, including boutique hotels and guesthouses that offer a personal touch. The district is also a good starting point for exploring local temples and experiencing authentic Thai cuisine at neighbourhood eateries. While not directly adjacent to major natural attractions like Mae Sa Waterfall, it offers good connectivity to other parts of Mae Rim via local transport. Its location makes it a practical choice for those who might be visiting for business or extended stays, offering a blend of convenience and local flavour.

Rim Tai

Rim Tai is a district that serves as a significant commercial and residential hub within Mae Rim, offering a blend of local life and convenient access to amenities. It's an area where you can find a mix of local businesses, shops, and eateries, providing a more urban feel compared to the more rural or mountainous parts of the region. This district is ideal for travellers who appreciate having essential services and a variety of dining options close at hand, and it can be particularly appealing to those who prefer a base that feels integrated into the local community.

Accommodation in Rim Tai ranges from more affordable hotels to mid-range options, often catering to both local visitors and international travellers seeking value and convenience. The district’s central location within Mae Rim makes it a good point from which to explore the wider region, with transport links to other attractions.
