Stayed three nights at the Silver Beach Resort. Area: there are only a few hotels on the beach, so it gets very busy during the day but is quiet in the evenings once the day visitors leave. The resort itself was very quiet and peaceful in the evenings, which was lovely. Though if you're travelling to Koh Samui for the nightlife then this isn't the resort for you! Staff: were very helpful and responsive (there was a problem with the light in my room; I mentioned it to reception & it was fixed within an hour). Food: in the restaurant attached to the resort was good. Breakfast is a choice of English/American/Thai set menus, or you can assemble your own by ordering individual items. There's a decent selection of things to choose. In the evenings the restaurant shuts at 7pm, but there are a couple of other options a short walk along the beach. The beach itself was very clean; once or twice I saw staff out there v early in the morning litter-picking and tidying. Had a lovely stay, would definitely come back here.

The beach is beautiful but the hotel is very basic. The bed was really uncomfortable, the room was very basic and you had to cross the road away from the beach to get to the room. There were a lot of insects in the room. The road is really noisy all night. Breakfast wasn't great. It was fine for a budget stay, but for a little bit more you can get a lot better.

Upon check in, we were required to pay 500THB deposit for the room key, we were not notified of this prior. We were escorted to our room which was across an extremely busy, main road from the reception. As you leave the reception area, you completely lose access to the advertised 'free wifi'. The bedding & room appeared to be clean. The decor & furniture was certainly not inviting & the dressing table/cupboard was damaged. The chair to the dressing table had no cushion, ie. it was a case of folding towels to sit on it or fall through the structure. The water to flush the toilet & from the basin tap was dark brown. We filled a bottle up to show the staff at reception to which they responded that it happens every morning & to open the tap until it clears, which we then did & it took approximately half an hour to have it cleared before it was 'okay' to have a shower/wash your face/flush the toilet without having dark brown mud stains around the bowl. The breakfast that was included in our rate were 2 options - American (Fresh fruit OR fruit juice, eggs/omelette, toast & jam with tea OR coffee) OR Asian (A bowl of boiled rice). Both were tasteless & disappointing. The one afternoon, the staff were disposing of their 'rubbish' in the garden below our rooms & burning it, the smoke blew directly into our room for approximately 3 hours. Most mornings we sat waiting for service in the restaurant. Pictures on website are not as they appear. An overall disappointing, horrible stay.

Lovely beach, however, so many people goes there so it gets pretty full at midday. The accommodation is divided on either side of a very busy road. We lived on the side where you had to cross the road, which was an adventure every time. Had never stayed there if we had children with us. The room / bungalow was ok. Cleaning should be done every other day if you left the key and asked for it. We had, nevertheless, just one cleaning in five days. At night you can hear the cars from the road, more or less constant. The lizards (I hope) are running on the metall roof and as soon as the sun rises a rooster, in the garden, makes sure you're awake. The pool has a fantastic location and beach towels could be borrowed in the reception. The food in the restaurant is good (only ate Thai) and the service as well. However, it can be slow to order anything directly from the bar, but they made good cocktails! All in all, the Resort gets a pass grade!
