We found Bur Dubai to be our favorite area. Cheap, delious food restaurants nearby, fun ally ways to explore for cheap shopping. The Gateway hotel was a little hidden gem. At first the area looked a bit seedy, but it was a safe and very friendly area. I highly recommend getting a room at the The Gateway for 3 days or more if you want a unique and fun Dubai experience as a white tourist family from the USA it will allow you get to know the real Dubai...and save money. Close to the Metro and Creek river, lots of retail shops with great prices and in the heart of Indian and Pakistan neighborhoods, very happy and friendly area. The Gateway Hotel was a great experience and I will recommend it to my friends.

The place was nice. Puts you right in middle with the locals. The hotel is located on a narrow one-way street, so getting to it is tricky. Excellent choice for someone who want to explore and is adventurous.

Room filthy with stains on pillow, black mold in tub grouting and dirty window sills. Lamps were torn and cracked and fridge was warm. Staff member said its purpose was to store medication. I asked if I checked into a hotel or hospital. Food poor. Room service called me back and said items I ordered were not available. This was 3 different times. Front desk staff not friendly. Prices were high. Don’t expect to order diet sodas as they have none. Had to call room service for soap 3 times. It never came. Door man and security guard were only 2 helpful staff. Kids screaming and running up and down hallways. Restaurant staff inattentive and slow. Won’t be back

One of our room thermostat not working despite 2 hotel attempts. It was freezing cold the whole time. The other room, got king size bed despite reserving twin beds and insisting on it at front desk. Finally after 30 min of wait, they changed the room to twin beds.

Great location and accessibility, but Customer service and food options could be improved. Very few vegetarian options in breakfast spread. In fact their quality of breakfast has gone down since my earlier visit to this hotel in 2017.

Located in the heart of But Dubai/Old Dubai this hotel is a true gem. A bit dated in room decor and conditions of bathroom and other fixtures, otherwise its a pleasant stay. The breakfast on the roof top restaurant has quite a few choices - Asian, indian and European hot and cold items. It also has its own parking for guests if you are bringing a car which is great since it is hard to find parking in this part of the city. Its minutes away from some key landmarks - Abra station to the old souks, bastakhiya and the Dubai museum and palace. Overall a really good experience and a pleasant stay.
