I stay at the Glendale regularly to visit my daughter and granddaughter who live nearby. It is a lovely hotel above an Italian restaurant with very convenient access to Penarth train station with regular trains into nearby Cardiff. It has both single and double size rooms and I usually choose a single. The rooms are well appointed with rather basic shower facilities, tea & coffee etc. a very nice full cooked English breakfast is available (extra) and of course there is the very convenient excellent restaurant downstairs. The owner/manager is very friendly and chatty.

The room was spotless with new fixtures and fittings. Staff were friendly and accomodating. There is a bar and a breakfast room. The room was quiet and the double bed was roomy. We were on the 2nd floor so a little tricky getting up with suitcases etc.

I'm going to be honest, I've stayed in far more friendlier, welcoming places than the Glendale. The room was on the second floor up some steep stairs, so if you are struggling with fitness or a disability, this is not the place for you. The room was shabby and the bathroom was accessed by two steps. I declined breakfast because I felt at £15, it was rather expensive.

Single room 11 was very noisy. The water pipes for the main tank run through the room, and as the hotel was busy, the water was constantly running. This had not stopped at 23.40; and started again at 6am. Not much sleep! I complained, but no action taken.

The bed was really comfy. The room, including the carpet, was very clean. The decor is a bit tired in places (faded curtains and tatty bathroom). The TV is tiny. There was no floor towel in the bathroom so ask for one when you check in.

What a lovely little hotel. We arrived quite late on a Saturday and we're welcomed by the friendly owner. Our room was clean and comfortable with a cute, old fashioned door key. We had a drink in the bar but didn't eat in the restaurant, although it did look lovely.
