LOCATION Zanhotel Tre Vecchi is about a 10-min walk from the Univ. of Bologna. TRAVEL It is an 8-min walk from Bologna Centrale ~ Bologna’s main train stn (allow yourself about 10 mins if you have luggage, or prefer to walk slowly). ROOM & BATHROOM The room was tastefully decorated, though small. The hotel follows a green policy, providing premium toiletries in refillable dispensers, minimising single-use plastic containers. DINING OPTIONS The hotel opens out on to Via dell’Indipendenza ~ one of the main arteries in Bologna’s historic quarter, and a parade of restaurants, shops, cafés, and heritage architecture ~ leading from Bologna Centrale to Piazza Maggiore. STAFF The staff are warm, friendly, helpful. I wanted to make the pilgrimage on foot to the hilltop basilica of the Santuario della Madonna di San Luca, situated c. 3.5km from the city centre. Seeing my determination to do this on foot, and not take public transport, the receptionist kindly worked out the best/safest route for me on a map. The walk there and back was effortless. I had an early-morning train to Padova the next day, but was reassured breakfast in the restaurant would be ready before my departure. BREAKFAST PLENTY of excellent fresh fruit, yoghurts, juices, a selection of cold meats/cured meats and cheese, a selection of hot food items, and the most scrumptious cakes. SAFETY Being on the Via dell’Indipendenza, the Zanhotel Tre Vecchi is in a busy area of Bologna that feels safe.

For the price, we were pleasantly surprised with this hotel! Very classy, wonderful staff, delicious breakfast! Luggage storage was a huge benefit!

Bon hotel mais sans plus, qui semble avoir perdu de sa superbe. Décoration surannée et usée, personnel pas très accueillant. Petit déjeuner complet mais pas fou. Pas de stationnement sur place, mais dans parking voisin (payant).

Was lovely to stay in a traditional old school Italian decor hotel. Staff were not especially welcoming when compared to other hotels I stayed in on this trip.

The location was very convenient and very close to the city center. The hotel itself was okay, obviously old and there were signs of disrepair throughout including peeling paint, broken cabinet door and old carpet. That said our room was still clean and comfortable if just a little musty, but we could have opened the window to fix that.

I got a fairly bare bones room with a small bed. Fine for a business meeting, but I definitely would have moved if I was on vacation. The staff was very helpful and friendly, and the breakfast was very nice. And it is *very* conveniently located to the historic area.

Regular visiter to Bologna and have used this hotel before. always good, so cannot fault it.

This is not a 4 star property as the carpets are dirty, curtains torn and the bathroom facilities seem to have been installed in the 90s. The only good thing I can highlight is the quality of the breakfast.

Great location at the beginning of the shopping centre. Requires a make over as areas dated . Bathroom was immaculate and lovely . Lovely place to stay

Nice hotel. Bathroom in need some minor repairs with holes in the walls. Reception on arrival could have been nicer if the person on the desk actually gave a smile . Seemed like we were giving him extra work.

Excellent location. Room very thematic, need some update. Breakfast is good, but waters are bad

Rude service. Room was small and very dirty and outdated. I checked in and immediately (5mins) went back down after seeing the room. Decided not to stay as there are plenty of other options abs was told they had to charge me for one night anyway as I had checked in. Paid it just to get out of there. Would highly recommend skipping this establishment.

Fantastic hotel with expansive breakfast in a great location. Public parking lot right next store was a huge bonus!

The hotel is in an excellent location for both the train station (12 min walk) in one direction and also the Piazza Maggiore and all the other amazing sites in the other direction (5 min walk). If you walk around the corner there are lots of bars and restaurants. The breakfast restaurant staff were all very helpful as my husband is coeliac and there was gluten free bread, and other breakfast carbs on the buffet in addition to a good spread for everyone else.

This is a beautiful hotel, however it is outdated management needs to invest and make it great again, the carpet and paper in the walls need to be replaced; the furniture and the decoration is like from the 80s; staff is very nice, they tried to do their best but hotel’s owners need to invest otherwise people will stop going to the hotel

We booked 2 rooms. The worst in the hotel. 144 and 146. 144 had almost no working functions- lights, no AC, cold shower. Room 146 was positioned directly across from the cleaning rooms thus doors opening and people talking at 7:30 or earlier. The host behind the desk, older man, was not very helpful or had an “attitude”. I felt we rec’d the worst rooms in the old section of the hotel because we booked on this site. Our friends in 144 complained and were moved to the new section in a better room. We had cold water the first morning and barely warm the next 2 mornings.
