Gorgeous old hotel in a fabulous location, central Shrewsbury. Parking only £5 per day. Comfy bed, great shower. Rooms a little tired but would definitely stay at The Lion again!

In the room the carpet was filthy. The mattresses were too soft. The internet was poor. The downstairs area looked very uninviting, like it had been left to rot. It was dark and depressing. There was no nice common area to sit and relax in. The carpet on the way to the rooms looked like it hadn't been changed since the 1950s and was threadbare and dirty. The area near the landing toilets was old and smelled of sewage The whole place needs an absolutely thorough makeover.

Our room was good ( but that is because it was the Dickens Suite) the rest of the hotel was pretty much deserted, reception was manned, but the bar was empty, the front rooms where empty and the hotel looked tired, which is a shame since it could be fantastic, excellent location with plenty of parking, historic building, could be made to have stunning sitting area by the fire, bar and restaurant in the front and boutique rooms, shame

The room was clean and tidy, but needs updating. T.v.was too small ,it was a bit noisy because our room was opposite a popular pub entrance and was ok after we closed the window. But for the price you can not complain.

Got in after a 15 hour day to no hot water. So I had to settle for a tepid warm bath & straight to bed. Hotel is a great building with plenty of character but unfortunately everything is so worn out & tired. No plugs near the bed, very small tv & paid as much as a nice hotel. Not good 👍 I would not recommend.

Very good breakfast locally but the hot could have warned us about no meals on the premises. Parking tricky!

Arrival- staff were helpful: My room was too hot, so another room was found for me. Any questions I had were dealt with immediately and successfully. Parking is available (1st come - 1st served!!) but reasonable cost. Central position and near most amenities, shops, etc.

This is an historical building, very well built and maintained. Staff could be friendlier, more enthusiasm. I will stay here again. Clean, great area. Shops and food close by, and can walk to the Castle from here. Nice to have local parking.

The staff was friendly and the location was great. The room itself was ok, however the shower didn't work and the wifi kept clicking off.

Not the greatest place I have stayed in, had a room that faced onto the main road and barely had any sleep both nights.... rooms are very dated and in need of an urgent upgrade. I left the door hanger on asking for room to be serviced but on my return I found that the cleaner had just folded up wet and dirty towels and put them back on the radiator. There are no facilities to get food here at the hotel and the bar was not open at any time during our visit. Not faciliated for people with mobility issues either.

Had to pay for parking but led to believe it was included. I was given the option of breakfast included which I wanted. Only to find out in the morning no breakfast available. So why was option there? Not good enough and misleading.
