Nice property location excellent for the piece Hall entertainment but a little rich for the dated accommodation

The rooms need updating badly. Tiles falling of the wall in the bathroom etc. The wardrobe was filthy and full of dust. Furniture needs updating too The beds are so comfy though. Staff always very helpful. Could do with someone to cart the bags upstairs as there are no lifts in the property. Helen

£193 (Room only) for 1 night in a shabby room. Had to park the car away from the hotel at the cost of £15 despite an email telling me to park in their car park for £5. Turns out that car park no longer exists. DISSAPOINTED.

I find it a bit galling to be a respected user of Hotels.com and be made to pay a £100 deposit on arrival, which, to be fair is in their details and I didn't read, but now I know that I'd avoid going there again. I'm not gonna nick owt, and if I break something, I'd tell you. And, it was the hottest day when I arrived and I asked if there was a fan I could borrow, the receptionist said she'd ask her boss, and never got back to me. I asked later, she said the same again, and never got back to me. Hilariously I went for food and popped into the curry house next door and ordered a curry, and as I was at the bar, the receptionist walked in, via a back corridor....the curry house and hotel are joined. I asked for a draught beer and a fork to take a beer and curry to the room and they said no to the draught and gave me a plastic spoon. So, it's fine to join one thing one way but not another. Clean hotel, and cheap, slightly weird experience. Oh, and there was an electric fan in my wardrobe....!! Which the boss might have been able to tell the receptionist had she called him.

Awful hotel! I paid £189 for one night as it was convenient for the piece hall. Absolute rip off! Could hear the bed springs as soon as I sat on bed. Bathroom very dated. No hairdryer so couldn't wash my hair. No lift, had to walk up several flights of stairs! The hotel should be renovated ASAP!

Clean single room for an overnight stay, the hotel is literally opposite the railway station and Piece Hall and town centre are a short walk away. Staff friendly and helpful. Some of the fixtures and fittings could do with some tic perhaps, but the rates are very reasonable and the bed was comfortable. Some rooms face a busy road so some traffic noise, but not too bad. Would stay again.

Limited parking on a main road, however, staff assisted me in finding a place which was secure. Room was clean and tidy with TV and drinks making facilities. All in all a good place to stay near the Peace Hall and Shay stadium. Also close to centre of town.

Staff were really lovely and helpful. A minor issue (lightbulb in main light had gone) was resolved in minutes. Room was clean and warm, bathroom was dated but clean and the shower was really powerful! Didn’t have breakfast at the hotel as my daughter is fussy! The hotel is ideally located for the town centre, piece hall and eureka, and parking is a 1 minute walk away. Have seen lots of negative reviews of this hotel but honestly there was nothing wrong with it. I travel a lot for work and travel for weekends away with my 8 year old frequently and this was a perfectly acceptable room, with attentive staff. For the price it was brilliant!

Room was ok, very basic. Strong smell of drains coming from sink and terrible view out of the window. Just old and tatty everywhere. Comfy bed though and clean kettle. Dirty remote control for the tv

Nice hotel, not plush but clean, warm, great shower and very convenient location, straight opposite train station and only a short walk to the centre of Halifax.

I've given 4 stars overall because the hotel was as we expected. The interior was very old and dated and is in much need of an upgrade but we booked the hotel knowing this, and did so for its location (perfect for an event at The Piece Hall), knowing it would be dated. The room was functional but could have been cleaner with dust and a bit of dirt in the less commonly used places. The bedding and bathroom were clean. Again, the bathroom is dated but functional with hot water and clean towels but don't expect a rainfall shower. There's a kettle for tea and coffee making, which was a nicer touch. There was no lift, which was fine by us but may not suit everyone. Parking wasn't the easiest to find as the post code on the website took us to a different car park but we called reception and the staff gave directions to the right one, which was free. All staff I encountered were helpful. They did ask for the £100 deposit at reception, although I was only aware they might ask because of reviews I had read. The staff on reception seemed to expect people to turn up unaware of the deposit. Overall, we booked this place for its location and expected a basic room, which is what we got. If you turn up expecting luxury, you will be disappointed but if you need a basic room for a night or two then this could be the right place.

The hotel is fine. It’s what you’d expect for the price. Dated and in need of some love but the staff were fab and it was two mins from the venue- all in all great stay.

Great location, but the rooms/building in general could do with some updating, and our bathroom wasn't very clean.
