The Palais Sheherazade & Spa is a wonderful place to lodge. The limited staff was hands on taking care of everything from handling my luggage to showing us the property. Breakfast was included and was top-notch. The Palais IS WALKING distance to the Medina. We walked there and walked back. Walking was a shorter distance than taking a taxi because you can walk where the taxi cannot drive. The room was very clean, the bathroom was very clean, and every part of the hotel we saw was very clean. With the limited staff and the fact we traveled in January when the temperature was in the low 40s at night and high 40s during make it difficult for hot water to be available. Additionally, when we arrived to our room no heat was on and it took a day for the temperature in the room to reach 60 degrees. I was able to acquire an electric radiator space heater which helped in the bathroom. Without the space heater I would have only staff at the Palais one night. I would rate this hotel 5-stars if it had working hot water and heat. By the way, in 2012 this hotel received a Star Diamond Award from the American Academy of Hospitality Sciences that reads "The American Academy of Hospitality Sciences unanimously agree that this establishment consistently maintains the overall standards of high quality and superb performance necessary to designate it as One of the Finest in its Category and Classification." Because trumps name is on this, that why there was not heat or hot water.

This property is a gem and I come back a few times a year just to relax in beauty, luxury and quiet. Fes is my favorite destination in Morocco and this ryad is stunning and hospitable. Whenever I stay, I feel that I am returning home to be pampered by family who have missed me. Thanks so much for my stay and I wish that I didn't have to leave.

This is a filthy and smelly hotel, with absolutely no staff, no reception, and no security when we attempted to check in. There was unwashed crockery everywhere, dirty linen, and rat droppings in the main hall. We could not possibly spend more than a few minutes in this awful building.

This is a gorgeous property but the rooms are dated. This is a palace that smells of old cedar as soon as you enter the room. If you speak English, there is a solitary person (Mohammed) who can help. Lot of people around but they are all newbies trying hard, but can't really help you. We were out of towels as the shower leaked onto the bathroom corridor and into the bedroom, but front desk never came by with extra towels when requested. When I went down, they spared me a small floor mat :) That's all they had. Too costly for the vintage experience.

The entrance is deceiving. The riad is huge once inside and truly does look like a palace. The decor is beautiful and the rooms are spacious. The breakfast was lovely and it is somewhere I would consider staying again. However I’m not sure if the riad was just opening up for the season or if there is some other reason but it seemed we were the only ones at the riad. A lot of the areas (spas, terraces etc) looked like they haven’t been functioning for a very long time. The indoor swimming pool was freezing although that didn’t stop my daughter having a dip. The rooms were overall clean but I think the taps, showers, bath etc need some tlc. Again, they look like they haven’t been touched in months. This riad has so much potential to be great. Just needs a little bit of maintenance.

Guide from a desert tour called all the riads and this one was the only one who refused to send someone to meet the van. From what I understand it was the owner. Considering how confusing the ages medina is this was a shock. Check in was good, facilities are beautiful at first sight. There was a lot of dust and some dead flies in the room. The shower head was broken, it would spray in all directions. Water was lukewarm, unfortunate with the huge tub in the bathroom. I went out for dinner and drinks the first night and when I returned I couldn’t get back in. I used the buzzer 4 times. Thankfully I was with a friend and his family had an extra room. Otherwise I would have been stranded as a solo female traveller. When I returned the next day I couldn’t find any staff to speak with about this. When I returned from a tour of Fez at 6pm my room hadn’t been cleaned. I had a full garbage and no more toilet paper. On my last day I tried to bathe, the shower head broke completely. When I went to check out I couldn’t find someone at first. The best staff member was this gentleman. I mentioned I needed to get a taxi to the train station and he actually took me there. Honestly, it’s kind of odd here, it’s empty most of the time, including empty of staff. I find it frustrating that I paid for two nights and couldn’t even enter my first night. Overall…beautiful spot but needs updating and more cleaning. Service is lacking.

The stay here was an amazing experience. The staff are kind and helpful. The food was sooo good and their house wine was perfect with the meals! The pools felt great after long hot days, the patio with the desert breeze was wonderful at night. The internet worked in public areas but we didn’t mind because it was so pleasant to just sit and enjoy the ambience. Rooms are clean and air conditioned. Just be aware the portions of food are so large you’ll be stuffed!

The hotel is unique in the sense that it’s an old palace. But because it was original, things were a bit dated. The restaurant area was nice but the food was overpriced and was just ok. The service was also just ok because they forgot certain things when we asked them to set something up. We ended up paying more for dinner because the waiter kept pushing us to get more things and misunderstood us and brought us stuff extra. Reception area was not easy to find. The best part is that this place is pretty close to the blue gate and entry to the Medina. Other than that, it’s definitely overpriced for what you get.

Extremely run down, slight odor, no hot water Seemed almost abandoned! Rooftop full of weeds and was only opened up for us, think we we’re the only guests.
