The most beautiful hotel I ever stayed in

El Convento is a beautiful hotel but is heavily lacking in service. We give it 2 stars because of several things: 1-we got no instructions on turning on the jacuzzi and almost got stuck at night without being able to turn it on once the staff leaves for the night (you have to pull a lever on a bottom side of the jacuzzi under the plants, and another button was behind the door across the room-how would we know that) 2-the restaurant area is full of mosquitos with nothing being done about them and no deterrents, so we got eaten alive during breakfast 3-the included breakfast is not good, waffles were terrible 4-our breakfast included bread for coffee which they never gave us, by the time we realized this we were already done eating 5-we couldn't eat in the rooftop because of a mothers day event and could only go if we paid extra $20. 6-we had welcome drinks which were never given to us, I had to ask before checking out for them to finally give them to us. 7-theres only 1 person checking people in so there was one family before us and we had to wait almost 15 minutes to be acknowledged once entering the property. 8-the AC in our room, room 14, was terrible and took hours to cool the room, and only did so by a little bit. It was not on when we checked in so room was hot. Overall, this is a beautiful looking hotel . I just wish the service and food was up to par. The price does not match the service.

Gorgeous property, service not so great

We loved this property!! It is so beautiful, with so much attention to detail. The staff was extremely courteous and helpful. It is within walking distance to everything we wanted to do in Antigua. We want to return to Antigua just to stay in this hotel again!!

El Convento is a gem in the heart of Antigua. The rooms are elegant and cozy, with fireplaces and beautiful stone bathtubs. The courtyard and rooftop views are stunning, and the staff goes above and beyond to make your stay unforgettable. A perfect blend of colonial charm and modern comfort—highly recommended.

El Convento is a beautiful and historic hotel. The grounds and the rooms are all stunning. Staff was very friendly, the bed was comfortable, and the location was perfect. Breakfast was included but wasn't the best. Overall we loved out stay and want to come back and stay here again.

Absolutely exceeded all expectations for me. This city was amazing - but El Convento hotel and staff went above and beyond to make my family’s stay memorable. I will definitely come back and would recommend this hotel to anyone considering. The Hotel itself was beautiful, good water pressure in showers, and comfortable beds.

Beautiful!

This hotel is one of the most beautiful in Antigua. The rooms (and beds) are great. The property has lots of little living rooms to sit around and a beautiful rooftop terrace. My only complaint would be that the food is not that great, given the quality of the rest of the hotel.

It is with mixed feelings that I qualify the experience as poor - the hotel is absolutely stunning and the staff very solicitous but there are too many problems/ issues that make the stay a hassle- the restaurant is mediocre - there are no power plugs to connect cell / laptops unless you move a heavy credenza, there was not even a table where to put the laptop- the TV didn’t work, the elecrical grid was unstable and the worst was when they applied an absolutely toxic chemical in the garden that had us coughing and hardly being able to breathe - this is totally overpriced and they will go out of their way to rip you off in any kind of service or food they provide - so, in spite of the truly gorgeous setting this is a third world property trying to charge you US prices for non comparable value
