We would not recommend this hotel to anyone. We complaint about the following, a boarded up window in the bedroom, the other windows were filthy; the bathroom light above the mirror did not work and there were crumbs in the draws.The general housekeeping was poor. When we complaint to reception they said we had been upgraded to the room from a standard and that they thought the broken window was on the second floor not room 326. They could not move us as they were fully but but suggested if we waited someone might cancel. We booked for one night as we were going to a concert so we were not going to stay in the hotel to wait to see if anyone cancelled. The gentleman on reception said we could not get a refund. It cost us £212 for the night so it was not cheap. Photographs can be provided.

Amazing old building, wonky floors everywhere, proper faded Victorian grandeur, however... The room was roasting, even with a fan and the pillows were hideous, like trying to sleep with your head on a rock,after one night and stiff neck and shoulders in the morning I went to Poundland and bought 2 pillows so I could get some sleep.

The pool is payable and really naff. It costs £20 for 2 adults and 2 kids (both under 5). Food is good and breakfast was good too. Room decent but incredibly hot.

Staff very polite and helpful... Breakfast lots to choose from, small plates.... small sausages to make it fit on your plate😅 Rooms are definately not as advertised.

We love the hotel and its previous grandeur. I think some guests expect too much of the hotel but all the staff are extremely friendly,helpful and try their best to make your stay as comfortable as possible. This is an iconic building and hotel in Scarborough a fantastic east coast location should be cherished as a gem in progress

No parking, but that is mentioned on the hotel website. The nearest NCP was a 5 minute walk (Balmoral Centre). The hotel is in a good location. Staff on reception are helpful and friendly.

The staff were lovely, breakfast was excellent, the restaurant didn't open till 6pm, so as we were going out we ordered bar food, which was ok, tasty but nothing special, convenient for us though.again the staff were lovely, We asked to change rooms because of a small problem,it was done without any fuss. It is slowly being renovated and just had lovely New windows in the lounge, some of the rooms need updating and the secret balcony could do with abit of TLC,, but it's a beautiful old building, and as we've been staying there for 20 years,we will continue to stay there,

Awful disgusting dirty hotel. Bedding was dirty, we asked for clean bedding and they left it outside the room on the floor without knocking. Cobwebs, stains on carpet and walls, hairs on the seat . mould the bathroom, didn't even shower , slept in our clothes. Went for breakfast and walked straight out, dirty cups and plates. Just awful Don't wate your money booking here.

Breakfast was good sea view well we open our curtains and all you can see was the buildings at back we had to go out for see that not happy overpriced plus £10 carpark charge a day but if u were to go out in car you lost your space everywhere u look parking tickets on cars

On first appearance when you enter the hotel it looks lovely, after walking along numerous corridorrs you realise the place needs a good hoover, our room hadnt been hoovered, there was 1 milk sachet, the meals are disgusting. Our disabled friend had to access the hotel via some doors at the rear of the dining room, staff had to be called on to open the fire doors and fit a ramp in place to gain access, if there was a fire i dread to think what might happen.

We had a great holiday room was clean and bathroom was clean but very cramped the bed were ok but the room was leaning which we found amusing On the last day we booked a dinner on the evening it was very disappointing and the staff were not very helpful we had a buffet meal but there was hardly any food and what was out was dry and unedable there was no soup salad and just a couple of cakes that had been discarded I was angry because we were really looking forward to it I found a waitress and told her we were unhappy but she just walk of we stayed precisely 15min and went out to buy something to eat

Hotel was ok, cleaning standards need to be improved, room servicing needs to be better and no AC in rooms just fans. There is no parking and you need to get a permit from the sister hotel, if they give it to you, permit cost £10 for day and expires at 1:30pm next day. Staff wer helpful at reception and bar, however drinks cost were high. Proximity to main areas was fantastic.

Beautiful building and features , great location however no on site parking , room was big and reasonably clean very dusty in areas cobwebs etc , no house keeping and some amenities were empty shower gel etc. Breakfast was excellent, Dinner disappointing

Room was ok but was quite far away and only stairs to access it. I had the buffet style meal at tea time and it was lovely with a good selection. Parking is a nightmare but it’s to be expected in a city centre.

Room was not clean, ı dont think cleaner check under bed and ı dont think they check dust, in the bath room shampoo bottle are very dusty, like weeks not been clean,room was smelled so bad(from bathroom)I have to go to tesco to get candles carpet and room spray, Staff was very helpful and nice, beach view beautiful, parking was close with £13 for 24hr

We had read mixed reviews but thought we’d give it a try for one night and judge for ourselves. Hotel is a stunning building but is definitely showing its age, however we found it clean fit for purpose. The room was clean and had everything we needed including fan, iron, ironing board, hairdryer. The outside terrace was nice, although we had to go to the downstairs bar to get a drink. We did not try the breakfast so cannot comment on that. The downstairs bar was nice with plenty of seating for groups small and large. I’d give it 9 out of 10 and would definitely go back again. Thank you!

Don’t let reception deceive you! It looks very nice but our room was absolutely dreadful. I understand it’s now a dated property in need of renovation but this was ridiculous. Worst nights sleep I’ve ever had. Floor was all uneven and the bed was rock hard and tilted to one side. The carpet was covered in stains, the desk was dirty and the kettle and cups left a lot to be desired. Now I understand at the coast you get seagulls but the racket through the night was like something I’ve never experienced. The staff were in the corridor banging a door from 7am every 2-3 minutes. I know sometimes you just need somewhere to sleep and shower but even this was pushing it! Not a minutes sleep to be had. Couldn’t wait to leave,

Top tip - don’t stay here! It’s filthy from top to bottom and the staff (including management) really don’t care. I chose a nice suite when we booked, upon arrival, it hadn’t been hoovered at all, there was food debris in all the button holes on the sofas, there were crumbs in the draws and urine in the toilet. When we reported this at reception, no apology, just told us to go back to the room, they would send housekeeping up, and we could tell her what was wrong! She shrugged it off and said, someone must have been in the room after I cleaned it! We left her to it and popped to the bar. When we went back up, the toilet was in a worst state than the first time! Reported this to reception again, still no apology but they begrudgingly changed our room. My husband directly asked the manager if this room was clean, and he said yes…. It wasn’t, dirty used towels in the bathroom and a whole bag of dirty swimming gear in the wardrobe. Reported this at reception, still no apology. Eventually they gave us complimentary breakfast, but don’t bother. Food sits out for hours, rarely topped up and two young staff members have no clue about speaking to the public. Honestly, save yourself a headache and book the premier inn.

The room was clean but a bit smaller than I am used to in The Royal. There is no parking at The Royal but there is paid for parking nearby. I didn't have a decent view. It was overlooking the middle square if the hotel.
