This hotel in particular has so much potential due to the location and building, it’s just unfortunately falling short on quite a few things that affect the overall stay. Firstly, getting to the hotel isn’t best signposted, having been a local to the area for 25 years I had no idea where it was and the drive down in the evening would easily get you lost. Secondly, the parking isn’t great, we stayed on a wet weekend and all the parking spaces were practically in muddy puddles, meaning as soon as you get out the car, your shoes are filthy. The walk upto the rooms in the evening also has no lighting, so you’re left to turn your phone torch on to try navigate. The room we had while was large and lovely, was in some need of touch ups. There was a lot of wall damage, mis-match of furniture, and small bits falling apart. Neither of our bedside spot lights worked. The heating control didn’t work either, we did find the room a little chill by the morning too. The beds were unfortunately pretty terrible, with them dropping in the middle. The bathroom was clean to the surface but could do with some deep cleaning to descale the shower and sort grout. We stuck with continental breakfast as we weren’t really breakfast people. While it was okay, i wouldn’t say it was really worth getting up early for. The selection was small and a lot of it wasn’t very fresh. Overall, Wouldn’t stay again unfortunately.

. The stay was pleasant enough, but it did not meet the standards one would expect of a five-star hotel. Check-in was difficult, as the reception was locked and we had to locate a cleaner, who then found someone to assist us. Upon entering our room, we discovered a cleaner’s half-drunk coffee had been left behind, and in another booked room no toiletries were provided at all. We were informed in advance that the restaurant would be closed in the evening, however we did not anticipate the complete lack of hotel facilities. There was no lounge or social space with comfortable seating, leaving us confined to our bedrooms for the evening. Breakfast was acceptable but continental only, with a surcharge for cooked options. While we were aware of this beforehand, it still felt inconsistent with the expectations associated with a five-star property.

Signs are needed when arriving to direct to the reception location. We arrived during darkness, there was not adequate lighting to permit safe walking when looking for the reception area. There are outside steps that have to be engaged when walking to the reception, we arrived after dark and in wet weather, coupled with no lighting made the steps treacherous . Not enough available Parking areas. Wooden furniture is drab, and in need of a coat of varnish or replacement.

(had to cram to fit the character limit, please know it was worse) Please read this before you book. I have never written a review before, so it says a lot that I felt the need to write this. The staff were very nice and friendly, but that is where the positives end. Signage on arrival is poor. Once you turn off the main road the only sign points to a “private road”, so I went the other way and ended up at the back of the hotel, which looks extremely shabby and run down. I booked a top-end room, but it did not match expectations. The room was large and the bathroom was almost the same size, with a waterfall-style shower inside a big bathtub. It looked good but was completely impractical, making it difficult to take a proper shower. Water temperature swung from freezing cold to burning hot, and no proper shower gel was provided. We also had a strong sewage smell whenever we opened the window. The hotel was fully booked, so there was no option to change rooms. We had to keep the window shut, use the fan and spray deodorant. The Wi-Fi was awful. The hotel is in the middle of nowhere and neither of us had phone signal, even on different networks. We relied on the Wi-Fi, but it was so slow that the televisions, which use Fire Sticks, were unusable because everything just buffered. Breakfast was another disappointment. We booked with breakfast included, but were told it was cold breakfast, which meant pastries and toast. As the hotel is isolated, we had to pay extra for hot food?

Good: comfortable bed, shower/bath, lovely environment. Poor: no heated towel rail, lack of vegetarian options, produce grown on site not used in restaurant.

Arrived at the hotel and checked in. I then asked whether we needed to make a reservation for dinner that night, to be told then restaurant was closed due to staffing issues. As this hotel isn’t close by to any restaurants etc, it was rather inconvenient. I then asked whether there was a bar we could sit in to catch up on emails to which we were told the bar was also closed due to staffing issues. As we were being led to our rooms, we decided it wasn’t going to work as we essentially would be bound to our rooms with no food (unless we ordered a takeaway which we didn’t want to do!) We told the lady who was taking us to our room that we were going to look for something else and could we have a refund to which she rudely replied that we should have decided that before we paid (we weren’t made aware about the restaurants until after we had paid!!…) The location isn’t as pretty as the pictures and looks quite run down in person.

I called on the day to check there was a room with a bath available and the lovely receptionist said there was one left and put a note when booking, which I did. On arrival the receptionist was lovely and we got a room with a bath. The room was nice but there were a few things off making it great. For example, there were a few cracked floor tiles, scratched paint, the bed was too singles put together, the window was tiny, the room got very hot, and there wasn't a hairdryer. The evening before I mentioned I'm vegan when discussing breakfast but on arrival to breakfast the only options were toast I would have to order and say "no butter please", jam and a very small selection of fruit. Nothing was labelled for dietary requirements.
