Traditional hotel. May appeal to others but wasn’t a good fit for my husband and I. Couldn’t use onsen because of tattoos. Wish this had been made clearer on adverts. Dated room with hard bed. Could feel springs through mattress. Invited to lounge for happy hour drinks but no one there to staff bar. Only vending machine noodles available for food and limited places open for dinner near by. Shuttle bus wouldn’t wait 2 minutes to accommodate us so ended up walking to train station 35 min walk away with all our luggage. Generally disappointing and wouldn’t return or recommend.

Great space, price, and staff. Area is amazing and views are stunning. One caveat will be the beds. I think the hotel should upgrade the beds because it was not so comfortable to sleep in

This Ryokan Style Hotel was an amazing surprise to our journey through Japan! The hotel is very well maintained with super amazing mountain and river views, and their Onsen are top notch with super high quality amenities! The food is really amazing and plentiful, I recommend booking with the Half board option to get both the breakfast and the dinner (kaiseki style). They are served on a private room on either the second or first floor. I do recommend contacting them in advance (or even prior to booking) in case you have a food allergy; they will make their best effort to accommodate if the allergy is 'simple' but won't be able to accommodate if its something more complex like 'gluten allergy', they do specify that in their web page though so do your research prior instead of trying to bash them out with bad reviews. I have a shellfish allergy and they provided other options for me to still have the experience so I am very gretful for that. The service is quite amazing and welcoming, they have english speaking staff which greatly helps to us foreign visitors. They offer a free shuttle from and to the JR and Bus stations, they have their schedule on their official web page but you could contact them in advance to review prior to your travel. Really recommend this hotel and would like to come back on another season to try different food and views!

Nikko was a great respite from the big cities, and Senhime was the perfect spot to refresh -- a beautiful and spacious room that faced the mountain and river, wonderful staff, excellent food, lovely indoor and outdoor bath. You come away feeling pampered. Its location is also excellent -- situated in a historic residential area that's an easy walk to the Nikko historic district, the imperial summer villa, the Kanmangafuchi Trail, and a botanic garden. The only issue we had was communicating with the staff about pick-up from the train station. The hotel may want to make sure their messaging system is compatible with folks who come from overseas. We ended up taking a taxi over.

Excellent kaiseki cuisine, great onsen baths, comfortable tatami room, and a few minutes walk from the world heritage sites of Nikko. What more would one want?

This hotel provides fantastic service. I was initially a little bit worried about the japanese style room (no beds) but it was comfortable. Their spa was clean and more spacious than what I expected. There are several tubs outside as well, which was really cool. The food was amazing. The breakfast and dinner were served in a private room. The best part was that the room had a riverview and we could open the window. We left the windows open throughout the night and the sound of the river was really surreal.

This was a great experience of a traditional Japanese ryokan. The half-board with breakfast and dinner was amazing. Lots of excellent, traditional Japanese food. It was also within walking distance of the temples and shrines in Nikko. There is a road separating the river from the hotel, but the hotel still has a great view.

My wife and I are are American Tourist in our early 60's We got to the hotel at 11:30 AM, exhausted and suffer from jet lag. We found that (1) almost no one spoke any english, (2) no one is allowed in the rooms until 3:00 PM, (3) we could not exchange cash or credit for Japanese Yen. The location was great - right across from the Temples - but it was pouring rain. We finally got to our room - but there are no beds! We found the mats and traditional mattresses, piled them in the middle of the floor, and wen to sleep by 6 PM. No internet access in the rooms. The other Japanese gust appears to have a great time and the breakfast was fantastic. There was one hotel staff who took me down beyond the train station to the 7-Eleven, which was the only place were one could get Yen. Nikko was very interesting, and there were may foreigners, but everything was in Japanese and only a few people spoke a little english and all instructions were in Japanese.

Nikko is a sleepy town, but that will come in handy for many visitors weary of the pace adopted in Tokyo. A day trip will be sufficient to see Nikko as there is not much to see - however if you want to relax, this is a good hotel to stay a night in.
