You pay for the experience of staying in a castle. It is a wonderful building. A little bit more information about its history

This was my FAVOURITE stay out of my roadtrip around the UK, really fell in love with the place. It might be my princess side coming out but staying in a castle was such an experience. Highly recommend, the reception staff was so nice! We also had a drink at the library bar and ate at the restaurant which was delicious. Exceptional service all the way. It’s a hotel where a car is necessary to get around however, this should be considered when booking this hotel. This being said, I would visit again anytime!

The castle is unique and has retrained all of the original castle features which makes getting around occasionally difficult - narrow passages, sloping floors and stairs. All to be expected in an old castle but still to be dealt with on your stay. We were 'upgraded' from a stables room to an equivalent room inside the castle. This room was clean and had everything you'd expect but was cramped - you needed a crab style walk to get between the bed and the wall. It was in need of decorating and perhaps just not to our taste. It was fine foer a one night stay.

This was our 3rd visit to Lumley Castle & it was just as great as previous ones. We wanted a relaxing break & it was exactly that. The staff were excellent & nothing was too much trouble. I do have one suggestion however regarding the bar menu. The library bar is a nice alternative to the restaurant especially if you just want a drink but we would have liked to enjoy some snacks to enjoy with our drinks but the only choices were pork scratchings & olives, no crisps or nuts. We also would have liked some ighter healthier meal choices eg. Caesar salad rather than the heavier choices of meat pie, burgers & fish n chips which were not our choice as the weather was very warm. The restaurant food however was excellent if a little pricey. Overall we enjoyed our stay very much & hope to return very soon.

If you like a bit of old fashioned charm, fantastic food and courteous service. You cannot beat Lumley Castle. We booked it on the off chance and were pleasantly surprised.
