The room was clean enough but it is an Old Building . The meals were great and very enjjoyble. but the staff were absolutely SUPERB. It is a family owned and run Hotel and you could not wish for better attention or Help.No it is not 5 star but the Staff make up for the Minor faults. thank you all for a Very Pleasant stay. Haakon.

A disappointing stay at the Northern Hotel. Room 111 had a strange smell when we opened the door. There was only a small window so the room was very dark. Bed was awful as you could feel the springs of the mattress and the pillow (only one each) was very flat so we didn’t have a good sleep. There were cobwebs on the walls and wallpaper was coming off the wall near the window. Toilet seat was loose. On the plus side the staff were pleasant and the evening meal was good. Maybe we were just unlucky and other rooms were okay.

Nice wide hall and stairs, Room was very comfortable with a great size bathroom, We had tea in the restaurant there and it was very very good, We had a drink in the bar after on a Friday night and it was good only 2 other people in the bar so talked together, Great place to stay, owner's where very friendly and welcoming.

The Northern is a lovely hotel, rooms clean, plenty of storage, toiletries, kettle & TV. We had dinner one night of our 2 night stay, food was delicious. We had breakfast one morning, I had full vegetarian breakfast, my friend full Scottish, both delicious & filling!

The staff were all really helpful and courteous. The hotel was spotlessly clean.

Hotel a bit ‘tired’ in places. Bed not terribly comfortable but great shower. Had good meal in the restaurant .

The staff was great; very friendly, helpful and professional. They always greeted me with a smile, no matter the time and asked if I require anything. The bed was not the most comfortable one but overall it was a good staying.

Had a bit of a problem checking in ,as all the doors were locked ,after 5 mins someone eventually came and let me in , staff were friendly , rooms were big and clean , hotel is in town centre close to everything , i would recommend the hotel as it offers good value for money

Staff very friendly . Lovely breakfast . Only downfall was that the mattress was very uncomfortable. Nice big shower , nice and hot and powerful

Nice hotel with decent rooms and good restaurant. Its a family run hotel so they care about their customers. Would recommend if staying in or around Brechin.

Old and tired hotel. Staff are polite but do not understand customer service. Breakfast expensive for what it was. Unable to charge meals to room ("due to people doing a runner in the morning without paying their bill"!) I had ticked, pay on arrival and had I not told them, could have walked out. Once I paid my bill they charge 50p more than the bill which they could not give me until later by email! Staying in area again next week, it will not be at the Northern Hotel.

The hotel staff are really friendly and very helpful they will do anything for you and the food is lovely and cooked to order

A little confusing over price of breakfast as listed as 8.95 and also states that in guest information in room but on the day was charged over 12.00. Not good.

The hotel is looking very tidy and looks to have recently been redecorated. We had a warm friendly welcome from the family. My room was clean and well appointed, with a nice hot shower. Big shout out to the chef as our evening meal and breakfast were delicious. Would definitely stay here again!

This is a great place and I have stayed here before. The reason for not giving it 5 stars across the board is the mattress in my room was old and bumpy. If the bed would have been more comfortable I would have given 5 stars on every level.
