I stayed at Blábjörg Resort for one night in Room 108. The property itself is beautiful, but my experience was overshadowed by what I believed to be a serious safety issue.
When I arrived, I was unable to lock either the front door or the patio door. We had already spent over a week traveling through Iceland and were familiar with the standard lift-the-handle locking system used in other hotels, but we could not get either door to lock. Since reception was closed, I immediately contacted the hotel through Expedia messaging, but received no response that night.
Because we couldn't secure the room, we ended up barricading the door with the shoe rack so we could sleep. I reported the issue again at check-out, but there was no apology, explanation, or attempt to make things right.
After my stay, the owner insisted the lock was functioning properly and suggested I simply didn't know how to use the locking system. That was frustrating, as we had successfully used the same type of lock throughout our trip, and my original message reporting the issue was sent immediately after checking in.
Whether the lock malfunctioned at that moment or not, what disappointed me most was the lack of customer service. When a guest reports that they cannot lock their room, I would expect someone to take the concern seriously, investigate it promptly, or offer an alternative room. Instead, my concerns were dismissed.
I can't recommend staying here based on how this safety concern was handled.
