The room, which contained a kitchen area with a fridge, opened out onto a balcony then onto a well maintained garden. It has a lovely pool area. The whole complex is surrounded by beautiful gardens. The downside is that it was quite a way up steep roads from Funchal

Nice property with wonderful views. Great staff, very clean. 15-20 minute walk to dinning and shopping. The roads down to the town center are very step, bring good comfortable shoes. The bus stop is close to the property, but at certain times of the day they don't run as often as I would have liked.

Very nice property. Very nice view. Kitchen equipped with the necessary things to prepare meals. Very nice and helpful staff. Available internal parking closed with an automatic gate. Large swimming pool, Bar serving meals outside.

Garden Apartments 3 floor rooms have a fantastic view over Funchal! 14 is called a "family studio" but in fact it has a separate bedroom. There is a main room with a double bed, sofa and balcony, and there is an additional bedroom. The studio has a stove and a refrigerator, pans, plates, cups, wine glasses, cutlery. It's not recently updated but most definitely clean. Would not look for anything else if back in Funchal.

We really enjoyed our stay here. The apartment was clean and there was plenty of space for all 4 of us. The staff were lovely and very helpful, explaining everything we needed to know, and even coming to our rescue when we came after check in hours and we got a bit lost! We felt very safe here. The pool was lovely and clean and the views are beautiful. The rooms don't have aircon, so it can get a little stuffy if it has been a really hot day. There is a local bakery and a minimarket down the hill both with friendly staff. It is a steep walk in to town, so we often used Bolt to get back which was cheap and efficient. All in all we were very happy with our stay.

Very helpful staff. Has a great pool. Our room had a fantastic view. There is a cafe on site with semi limited hours. it was walkable to the main part of town but too much to walk back to since it is way up the hill (but it is doable for many). You can request a breakfast basket for a cost and we did it once and you can pick as many items as you want and it was very nice and well worth it. We would stay here again!

We had a private apartment with kitchen, seperate bedroom and balcony, which was perfect for everything we needed. It's a little bit up the hill above Old Town, but not particularly an issue due to the price of Bolts being so low (£3-4 from the centre), and the walk not being too difficult. Very friendly and welcoming staff on arrival, and beautiful gardens in the complex. The pool made the place though, with stunnnig views over the city, sun beds and beach towels provided. There's also a terrace above the pool if you prefer, next to a clubhouse - personal favourite place to sit for dusk. Good size carpark as well if you do rent a car.

We were generally inpressed with the entire property.

The view was fabulous. The kitchen implements were limited. There were very limited cleaning supplies available (my daughter was ill the first evening / night and there was nothing available to allow me to clean up.) A broom is helpful as well.

Away from the hustle and bustle, with fantastic views over the bay. The apartment was spacious and well furnished and equipped. Excellent bus service into Funchal

Perfect hotel to visit Funchal with lovely view of the Ocean and city from our balcony. Very clean and lovely staff. Also very quiet at night. Excellent internet connection. I would have given a 5 to room comfort if the mattresses hadn't been so hard. All in all a very pleasant stay. Would be happy to recommend.

The staff were very helpful and knowledgable about the island. The location is good for Funchall town ( although the walk back is very steep and tests the legs ) and for getting to the rest of the island . The room was a good size , although the kitchen area was a little cramped and the lack of an oven was a bit of a draw back . The pool was excellent and warm with plenty of space for sun beds

Very beautiful apartment complex. We had a ground floor apartment so no view of the town, apart from that a great place to stay. May need a bus (2 euro) or an 8 Euro taxi ride back up the hill after a long day though.

Staying at Quinta Mae dos Homens was a joy - if a little challenging for the legs. This small apartment complex is very comfy (if just a tad worn round the edges), with spacious accommodation and a lovely pool and gardens - and the staff were a joy. However it is quite high up towards the back of Funchal - we didn't know what a steep lane looked like till we stayed here! But the views over the city and harbour were great, and going down into town was easy. So too was getting a taxi to take us back at the end of the night. All in all we had a great holiday here.

We spent a week at this appartment and loved our stay. The staff were very friendly and accommodating, even when we had to stay an extra two nights due to cross winds at Funchal airport. We will definintely stay here again if we return to Madiera.

Location not ideal for aging legs. Coped by extensive use of local buses which were very reliable , and taxis which were relatively cheap. These apartments in a different location, ie closer to town centre, would merit a higher rating,

Spacious apartment with balcony overlooking the sea, we enjoyed the 'coming and goings' of boats in the port. The hotel is set in beautiful gardens,also there is a large pool, tastefully enhanced with comfortable seating and potted flowers. This was our first visit to Madeira, and we found the experienced staff extremely helpful, advising us on different tours, walks etc. The cleanliness of everything was A1. We will definitely return.
