There was no signage for the car park as it was through a narrow gap behind the hotel. I was given the key to the room, which I was told was through a door to the right of reception. On going through the door I found I was outside in the poring rain with again no signage. I went back into the hotel and found a lovely lady who was cleaning, who I asked where room 225 was. She took me back outside and showed me my room was in the wooden single story building opposite, the entrances to these “cabins” was around the back of this building opposite a 7 ft wall. If this was explained/sgnposted I could have found it.

Good, nice room in the main building, comfy beds. Only complaints: the swinging door slamming outside room 202 was loud and woke us up in the early morning, and there were no lightbulbs in the bed side lamps. Other than those things, eveyrhing was great.

In the Highlands walking. Looking forward to a hot bath / shower and drying wet clothes at the Hotel. None could be achieved. Boiler failure. Though this doesn't explain why the electric heater didn't work. No discount was offered, a free breakfast had to be requested. It would be a bonus if the room's bathroom door didn't have to be forced over the carpet. However, good location and Indian food was served at 20:30 in the adjoining pub. Dunkeld itself is a Highland gem of a village.

Hotel needs updating… It feels very tired. My room was what looked like an old dilapidated shed in the back of the hotel. Room was as clean as possible… But rug looked ancient, side table was put together with plywood and a white tablecloth. Three very large dining rooms with absolutely nobody in them. Would not recommend staying here.

Excellent location. Hotel overall is ok for the money paid. Nothing extravagant. Avoid the breakfast though as it is very poor and basic.

Hotel was grand for just the night, room could do with a better thorough clean, the tv had splashes all over it for example.

Rooms didn't have towels, very musky damp smell everywhere. Cheap but not cheerful

The staff were friendly but the room was not clean or comfortable. It was very small. The bedding was acceptable but the windows were dirty and there were marks on the walls.

Filthy place

The staff was extremely friendly. Shout out to the older man running breakfast cooking and serving solo,wasn’t easy since there were so many people. The hotel itself was older but had charm.

Basic but clean and warm. Staffing was very thin on the ground in the morning although the unsupervised breakfast was fresh. Nobody was around take payment!

The room was fine, but very small. We were in the annex outback. The staff was not very accommodating.

The Hotel That Time Forgot (and Hygiene Ignored) This place is straight out of nightmares. We paid £155 for one night because it was in a convenient location, and the photos on Expedia looked decent enough. I wasn’t expecting The Ritz, but I was expecting the bare minimum: a clean towel, a clean room, and some hot water. What we got instead was a stained towel, a filthy bathroom, no hot water in the room, and the kind of “decor” that screams, “we gave up in 1983.” The bed? Imagine lying on a scrapyard dressed in bedsheets. The frame creaked if you so much as breathed near it, and the mattress springs are now a permanent part of my trauma. This bed should have been humanely retired during the 1970s—possibly burned, just to be safe. We didn’t bother trying the bar or food, partly because the bar was a ghost town—completely empty except for a blaring TV showing bargain-bin daytime television. Honestly, the empty chairs looked like they’d given up on life too. For £155, this wasn’t just disappointing—it was daylight robbery with a side of mildew. Do yourself a favour: stay literally anywhere else. Even sleeping in your car would be a more comfortable and hygienic option.

The hotel was filthy, carpets worn. No hot water so had to have a cold shower. Water stains on bedroom ceiling. Overall a very unpleasant stay.

Good Afternoon I am writing to express my disappointment regarding my stay at the Royal Dunkeld Hotel on Saturday, 13th September. As a long-standing member, I rarely raise complaints, but unfortunately, my experience on this occasion fell well below acceptable standards. The hotel was dirty, and the service was extremely poor—I even witnessed two families leave because they were unable to get any assistance. Most concerning was the lack of cleanliness and maintenance. Fresh dog urine was present on the reception carpet and remained uncleaned for over 24 hours. In addition, there was no running hot water, forcing me to take a cold shower in a unit that was very worn and dated. This experience was both unpleasant and disappointing. I would be grateful to know whether similar complaints have been raised about this hotel, as I would certainly not recommend it to fellow members in its current condition. I trust you will look into this matter and I look forward to your response. Kind regards John

Property in grave need of a good clean and maintenance both inside and out. Pervasive smell of greasy food inside hotel. Breakfast was poor quality. Outside lodge rooms like garden sheds, dark access unmade paths weeds. etc. Door to electric cupboard hanging off hinges. To be fair interior of lodge room was clean, but cramped. Bathroom was 1.5m square. No toilet brush provided.

Not great value for money. Towels were not fully clean and the twin room only had one duvet.

Hotel in lovely location on Dunkeld Main Street. Helpful and friendly staff. Nice room. However the place needs some TLC with worn / uneven carpets, windows and cupboards in communal areas needing repair. Dunkeld is a very nice place. Plenty of lovely cafes and restaurants nearby and lovely walking both along the river from the town and further afield to Loch of the Lowes and The Hermitage (NTS).
