This is a lovely old hotel which has been carefully modernised .It is in a great location in Horncastle's town centre close to the market . lots of antique shops and some good restaurants . Food in the hotel was great for both breakfast and dinner , and both food and drinks were reasonably priced . This part of Lincolnshire is well worth exploring and The Admiral Rodney Hotel makes an excellent base to do so .

We were not impressed with this hotel,we have stayed in several coaching inn hotels and this is by far the worst,we didn't get off to a good start, after booking a dog friendly room for 3 nights10 days before our arrival, the hotel then decide to ring us on the day of arrival and say they had only got a dog friendly room for the first 2 and not the 3rd,its wasnt untill i persisted that they eventually said quite rudely, this time you can have a none dog friendly room, even on arrival at check-in the lady on the desk said, oh your the one's with the dog, after settling in we went and got drinks and sat outside, our well behaved dog pooped,we picked it up but couldnt see a bin,i asked at reception and was shocked when she said they hadnt got one, there was not one bin on the property for any rubbish or poop you had to put it in a bin out on the street, they promote the hotel as dog friendly but dont have a poop bin!!! 2 out of 3 of the mornings at breakfast we sat and waited half an hour for someone to come and take our order, the first evening of our stay we booked a table for dinner, the starter came and i ask the waitress what one of the items was,and her reply was i don't know, surely you should know what food your serving, the only good thing about our stay was that the room was very nice, and the housekeeping staff were very friendly, but we will not be returning.

I would have given 5 stars for our visit but we had a bit of hassle over our meal on Friday. An offer of fish and chips plus free drink was advertised but the receptionist was unaware - asked us to come back when she’d looked into it. Second receptionist an hour later was aware of offer and made our booking. However the waiting staff had no idea about it, nor did the person who made up our bill. The staff all tried to be helpful but this wasn’t a great experience. Management - make sure your staff receive adequate training!!!!

We upgraded to deluxe room as these are much nicer than the basic ones from previous visits - room was lovely bed not comfortable and the service was terrible - 20 mins to stand at bar to get drinks - tables were not cleared and dinner came out with 5 mins gap between the other people coming out - food was nice and reasonable priced but drink overpriced.
