The service and hospitality is below the standard for an onsen ryokan, especially at this price point (¥21,050 per person). The usual hospitality you expect from a ryokan wasn’t there - お菓子 usually available in the room at check-in was missing despite the check in instructions telling us to please enjoy tea and sweets.
Next at dinner, the rush to serve a lacklustre meal left us eating in a mad dash. Unfortunately the menu was quite underwhelming and definitely did not live up to the pictures on their homepage. The highlight of the dinner was the grilled trout, though it was served in the wrong sequence. The main protein was supposed to be a grill/barbecue but the pre-prepared grilling dish had enough oil to boil the meat - totally inappropriate for highly marbled beef. The service was also disappointing, the staff did not clear the previous dishes before serving the next course, and was in a huge rush to serve food faster than we could eat. When the rice came we were even asked if we would like dessert at the same time! The tea was also served with the rice, which meant that by the time we had rushed to finish the rice and were ready for dessert, the tea was cold and no top ups were offered. When we finished our meal and left our dining room, not a single staff member in sight to check on how the meal went.
Perhaps the service standard was lowered assuming that foreigners would not know what the benchmark is, this has been quite disappointing and there is a lot of room for improvement.
