Lovely cottage in quiet rural area, situated beside The Roaches, with great views of surrounding hills and coutryside. Ideal location for exploring the area with good walks on the doorstep.

Lovely short break with a big dog. The walks from property were amazing. We visited when Storm Amy came. We got soaking wet, blown around & cold but, came back to a lovely warm cottage with plenty of hot water for our showers.

We stayed here for 1 week and did not have a great experience. The property was in poor condition, lots of moths, insects and damp throughout. We heard signs of rodents and seen rodent droppings around the kitchen and living areas. Apart from that the location was great and stunning views around the property

really comfortable stay - the cottage is cosy but has high ceilings so no banged heads and it doesn't feel cramped. beds really comfy. fantastic location - amazing walks from outside the front door. lovely pub in the village down the hill. and the owners run the tea room next door so left us a lovely plate of cakes on arrival!

Walking distance of the Roaches and other footpaths easy to reach. The accommodation was comfortable, with all of the things you would need. Beds comfortable, hot electric showers! Would definitely book again and recommend.

Flexible arrival and departure - while we could have collected/dropped off the keys at tea room, there’s a key safe available if arriving later/departing earlier. Tidy cottage with comfortable beds. Perfect location for The Roaches and a nice choice of restaurants not far away in Buxton, if you prefer to eat out.

The location was simply perfect. The level of communication and helpfulness from the host was 1st class. Cake and milk provided made a stress free first evening. The property is well laid out and welcoming. Great base for walks would highly recommend

We’ve stayed in the other property and that seemed to be abit more updated than this one. It advertised as having internet but as property is so remote and thick cottage stone we couldn’t get any internet. Also kitchen area may be needs some updating. All in all had a lovely time.

A very pleasant stay in a beautiful area. A good location for walks in the south of the peak district, particularly up to Hen's Cloud and the Roaches, Gradbach Mill and Lud's Church, and a little further away Miller's Dale & Chee Dale gorge. Nice to have a welcoming couple of slices of homemade cake and a jug of fresh milk on arrival. The accommodation was comfortable and had everything we needed. The mobile service (EE) is not the best from within the cottage through the solid stone walls but better upstairs. The TV has all the usual freeview channels. No wifi available.

Had a great 3 night stay at Smithy Cottage . We were family of 5 and using it as a base for Alton Towers . Comfy beds and enough proper beds for all of us . The cottage was well equpped and in lovely setting . Just a shame it was so misty weather when we were there . There were a few cobwebs on the stone walls in the cottage but it added to the character that shouldnt put you off everything else was clean and tidy. There was no wifi which actually made a pleasant change as the kids actually had fun playing charades instead of glued to there phones . The tearoom was lovely too and busy with walkers . We would definately stay here again .

Lovely cottage, I was unsure when booking as there wasn’t photos of all the rooms, however they were all great. The location was perfect, right by The Roaches, great for walks from the door step and close by to other amazing locations in the Peak District. Being so close to the tea rooms was convenient for lunch, and we were near enough to the town of Leek for shops for supplies. Comfortable beds, and the whole place was clean and tidy. Leaving cakes for us was a lovely touch. Thanks for a great stay!

What a hidden gem! Couldn’t have asked for any more from out weekend stay, a clean, cosy, comfortable cottage, with everything we needed and Set in stunning scenery. We are a family of six and came to visit Alton Towers for the weekend, and we couldn’t have picked better accommodation. The hosts were lovely, and a plate full of cake in the kitchen on arrival was very much appreciated by my children after a six hour car journey!! Already thinking of coming back.
