Location is amazing! Right in the heart of the greatest parts of Valparaiso. The hotel is very simple, but just what I needed for the few days I stayed there. It's a safe hotel because someone is always around at the front door. You do need to often ring the doorbell to get in, but the owner comes to get you very quickly. He is also so helpful and will guide you wherever you need to go in the city. Recommend to the solo traveler!

The best thing about this hotel is the location, slap bang on Cerro Alegre and not far from the heart of the action. The hotel itself was basic, but tired. Needs a luck of paint. It took 20 mins for hot water to run through. The towels were grey, old and featured ingrained stains. But you get what you pay for. It was fine, but we should have spent more and gone somewhere a bit nicer.

A great spot located on one of the many hills and a 5 minute walk to one of the fenicular lines. It’s also about a 15 min walk downtown and there are some great restaurants, cafes and bars within a 15 min walk once you get orientated. The staff are very friendly and helpful, the rooms are small but comfortable and everywhere you look are little artistic touches that make it special. It felt safe and was relatively quiet. The breakfast was the usual fare but again well, presented and fresh.

We loved this hotel. Extremely friendly and helpful staff who let us check in early in the morning after an overnight bus, were helpful with directions, and organized a taxi to the bus station the following day. Great location and excellent breakfast. Would definitely recommend.

Stayed 3 nights before flying out. Hotel and street are quiet. Hotel is relaxed and welcoming. Rooms a bit cramped and basic, ok for the price. Staff were very helpful.

Great location. Nice atmosphere - like staying in a house rather than hotel. Rooms very small but comfortable. Basic but nice breakfast included. Good wifi

I always stay at Montealegre when I go to Valparaiso! I've tried a few different hotels there, and I always come back to this one because it offers the best bang for your buck. The bed is so comfortable and the bedding and pillows are very comfortable. My room was spacious and had a million dollar view for only $50/night, breakfast included. The breakfast is also tasty with fresh, made to order eggs, although it's a pretty small portion. The bread is also soft and warm. The coffee is decent as is everything else. My only complaint is that the bathroom is really small and the lighting it terrible in the bathroom. They should really invest in some new light fixtures and just update their bathrooms as a whole. The walls are also very thin, so if you forget your earplugs, that could be a big problem if you're a light sleeper. Other than that, I would highly recommend Montealegre!

Accommodating staff, conversant in English, very helpful and re-assuring. I was there during recent earthquake (6.9 with several strong after shocks) no damage here that was prevalent in other buildings.I felt safe. It was quiet at night, didn't need earplugs. GREAT PRICE!

We were able to check in early which was extremely important to us as we were not feeling well. the Hotel desk clerks were very helpful with information and also arranged a Taxi to Santiago for us. We were very happy that the desk clerks spoke English.

Nice for one night. Great service and the free breakfast is good. The room was pretty clean, but it's very cold even with the little heater in the room. The floors are tile so it stays chilly. The bedding is really nice though and they give you enough covers to keep warm while you sleep.

Great breakfast. Great location. Bathroom can be cleaner but overall the hotel looked nice. Bit of a challenge to find coffee/tea/dinner nearby.

The hotel staff was very accommodating with our early arrival and late departure. The complimentary morning breakfast is delicious and lots to keep you going until lunch time. The location is perfect. Located in the old section of Valparaiso where most of the murals are located. Lots of eating establishments to choose from and we had some fantastic meals. There are safe areas and not so safe areas in Valparaiso (like any city) and this hotel is located in an area that made us feel safe. The electrical plugs in Chile are different than our home country (Canada) so be sure to bring an adapter. We didn't and the hotel was able to supply one for us to use.

Great location. Minimal room, but that was what I was looking for. Finding the front desk unattended at times raised some questions about security - with the room keys hanging in plain sight.

A very pleasant boutique hotel on a steep hill close to the port. My room was upgraded to a double, but would have been cramped for two people with luggage. Bedrooms and common rooms are tastefully decorated and have a distinct European flavor. Because of winter there were no other guests, but I expect the place to be noisy when fully booked even though there is no TV in the bedroom. The service is very attentive and helpful. The location is within walking distance of good restaurants on Almirante Montt, and just a couple of blocks downhill from the hotel is the art museum of Valparaiso which surprises. Walking the hills can be arduous but is worth the effort to get a feel of old Valparaiso. And with the free street map from the tourist office one even has a chance to find the hotel again.
