We've stayed here many times previously without issue. We apparently were messaged about an hour to an hour and a half before check-in that the A/C was not working. Quickly checking Expedia, of course there were no rooms available at any Thunder Bay / Expedia properties (likely due to wildfire evacuations/general status of Thunder Bay accommodations/vacancy now).
Quick search of the other hotel branded websites yielded the same result, nothing available anywhere. While checking in we overheard someone else say the A/C was out the previous week when they stayed there and they were wondering if it had been fixed yet. This same revelation was also confirmed when reading other recent Expedia users comments, later that night.
So in the end I accepted the room without A/C on the tail end of a heatwave and poor air quality due to wildfire smoke. Where else was I going to stay? They did eventually provide a fan and I also went and purchased one on my own. Staff were as helpful and professional as they could be, given the situation. They did provide a discount/refund of 10% upon request when checking out so I guess that counts for something. Frustrating part is if they potentially knew the A/C was going to be out for a long period, had they reached out earlier other arrangements might have been possible. That and still charging full premium rate, despite a pretty important amenity being unavailable.
