Really great hosts, room was excellent and the breakfast was superb. The views around the location were some of the best in the Durham dales ... super.

Thank you to the hosts, we had only one night but absolutely loved it. We had incredible consideration given to us by providing us with blankets for our trip to see outdoor evening performance of Kynren. Breakfast was a gorgeous plentiful full English. Thank you for a really considerate and friendly experience.

After a seven hour drive from Skye in wet and stormy conditions, it was wonderful to arrive at Lanehead Old School where Lisa had lit the log burner in the large and comfortable hall and made me feel immediately at ease. The sleeping quarters are very cosy, with a separate bathroom and living room containing everything you need for a relaxed stay, best of all a very comfortable bed. Next morning breakfast was sumptuous, cooked to perfection by Lisa who is a super host. L’oasis a special place ideally situated for me as a stopover between Kent and Scotland. My only regret is that I didn’t get to meet Gordon.

From the minute we arrived, Lisa couldn't have done more for us. We felt completely catered for and had a wonderful stay. The school house has been renovated so beautifully and we loved hearing about and seeing the history of it. The bed was extremely comfy and we slept brilliantly, waking to a gorgeous home-coked breakfast. The views from the school house were beautiful in every direction and we felt perfectly detached from the rest of the world (but with 4G signal - good mix!). It was also great to meet Gordon, the resident wolfhound, as we played pool as a family before we went to bed. Such a lovely evening and morning!

I arrived early to a super friendly host. Was invited into an open lounge for the quests with a roaring real fire . Offered refreshments and then shown to my room for the night. . Cannot fault the whole experience from start finish . Real home made breakfast, just a lovely environment , and a very good price I would have paid more for this . Thanks again to the host she was super lovely .My only regret is not spending more time there.

A lovely and tasteful conversion of an old school house by the current owners Chris and Lisa who made us welcome on first arrival! Entering through a gorgeous large porch into the wonderfully large yet cosy hall furnished with comfortable chesterfield and fireside chairs and kept toasty via a large attractive log burner! Lisa our host was attentive but not intrusive and made us feel comfortable and every wish catered for through out our 2 day visit including the delicious full English Lisa cooked both mornings a breakfast to behold! We had a wonderful stay at the Lanehead Old School and when it was time for us to leave we felt we had made a friend in Lisa and a place we will definitely be returning to when the occasion allows us !

An amazing place to stay, with spectacular views and steeped in local history. Lisa will welcome you with a great big smile and goes above and beyond to make your stay perfect. Nothing is too much to ask for and everything you need and more is provided. It has all the mod cons. We enjoyed a luxurious stay, relaxed in the lounge in front of the roaring stove fire, whilst enjoying the stunning views and watching the huge tv. Beds are super comfy and provided a great nights sleep. Breakfast is a magnificent spread of beverages, cereals, fruit, yoghurt, croissants, homemade preserves, toast and a full English! All high quality ingredients and locally sourced. It tasted delicious! Fit for Royalty! We stayed just one night and didn’t want to leave! We will be going back again. Highly recommended, a perfect gem with an amazing host. A great base for exploring the surrounding area.

Exceptional place to stay. Warm friendly welcome. Beautifully furnished and spotlessly clean. Very comfortable bed and everything provided you could possibly need. The full-english breakfast was the best I've ever tasted. I thoroughly enjoyed my three night stay and will definitely be back. The location is quiet and superb for exploring the upper reaches of Weardale.
