The location in San Blas district, near the square was excellent! Michael and Gladys were wonderful hosts!

This was our favourite hostel in Peru. We spent three nights here before heading to hike the Inca Trail. After our hike, we planned to stay in Urumbamba for one evening but decided to come back to Cusco and stay at Madre Tierra because we loved it so much. The staff were so welcoming, the room was comfortable and clean, and the hostel itself was quite homey. Janet was the sweetest - she made made us a great breakfast every morning and made sure we were warm enough. The location is also great - its out of the way of the busy main square and right in the middle of quiet San Blas. I would highly recommend this Hostel to anyone staying in Cusco.

The staff were very kind and were able to accommodate my sudden need to change around my reservations. I definitely recommend this place as a nice and tranquil place to stay in Cusco

Rogelia took great care of us and added to the charm of the place. Her breakfasts were delicious and she really tried to make our stay as pleasant as possible. The scent of a wood fire, the colorful décor, as well as the garden patio and pleasant music added to the wonderful vibe of Cusco.

We stayed just one night at this hotel and enjoyed it. The staff were friendly and helpful: making us fresh coca tea, cooking us breakfast before any other guests were awake, and arranging for a cab and laundry services. We chose this hotel because of its location in the San Blas neighborhood--it is way up there, but still only a 5-8 minute walk to the main plaza. The decor was bright and the room comfortable. Note that their credit card machine was down when we were there, so we had to run out to an ATM and take out more soles in order to pay.

Great place to stay. Friendly staff and clean. Unique atmosphere. However walls are very thin and sound travels easily. In quiet San Blas area.

I traveled with my wife and two adult children to Cusco during the holidays. We treated Cusco as our "home base" for Machu Picchu and the multiple day trips that we took and stayed at Hostal Madre Tierra the entire time. The hotel was great at accommodating our schedule and our demands. My son ended up getting food poisoning, and we had to book a room on the spot. The hotel was flexible and very kind in helping him out. The hotel is very small-- our family shared one room for a few nights, which consisted of single beds packed together (although the view in the top room was amazing!). The staff also doesn't speak English very well. Otherwise, it was a pleasant stay.

Very nice & the staff were exceptional. On New Years the staff provided champagne & had fireworks for us. Breakfast in the mornings was excellent. Strongly recommended. Initially location seemed sketchy but that's just Cusco in general.

This hotel is located in the lovely and quaint San Blas neighborhood. The hotel is very simple. We stayed there for 2 nights before Machu Picchu and one night after. At that point, we were ready for a little more luxury and we moved. We had to leave our luggage there twice and it was very safely guarded. The hotel is very reasonably priced, but the staff is very young.

Hostel Madre Tierra felt like our home away from home while staying in Cusco. The setting was very charming, and the staff was welcoming and helpful. The rooms were great, one with an amazing view of the city, another with an in suite jacuzzi. This was a wonderful place to stay. Would highly recommend!

We stayed a couple of nights and it was OK. No hot water on the first day was a bummer. Its in a good location and the staff are good, not much english but need to help. We had better accommodation for the same price. However I would not be disappointed to stay here again. very poor wifi

We had booked for one night before flying out the next day. We returned from Puno, and my son got sick and had to be admitted to hospital. The hotel staff arranged for the doctor to come, first thing in the morning as soon as we asked for her assistance, which was very comforting. My son ended up staying two nights at the hospital - the doctor and hospital staff were excellent too. Even though we had booked one night at the hotel, they allowed us to continue to have the same room for the remaining period of our stay in Cusco. We settled before we left. We cannot thank them enough.

stayed with my son here on our way to trek Machu Pichu. This is just like family home. Very comfortable, and very hospitable hosts. B/fast is very good with eggs to order, good choice of bread, coffee and fresh orange papaya juice. Coca tea available 24/7. Heaters in room since it gets cold at night. Only draw back is the availability hot water sometimes 1 day out of 3 we had issue. Also hostel is located up the hill, means carrying your backpacks and was up could be tiring. Good overall otherwise

A few issues: 1. Our 2 night booking was not listed on their booking schefule when we arrived. The night staff then said we would have to move rooms on the second night. It was only after an argument that we managed to stop this. 2. Our room had a spa tub, however this was useless as there was no plug. 3. The hostel does not give a key for the front door and it is sometimed difficult to wake the night staff to let you in. 4. The rooms are quite cold with no decent heating (which we would have expected for the price). On the positive side, the breakfast is very good and the day staff were very helpful.

Loved our stay here, we stayed 4 nights. Everything was smooth. A bit of trek from the main square but still a great location.

First of all i have to say that the staff was very helpful and kind. Always made breakfast to our wish and the fruit was very fresh. The downside is that the room was freezing cold (they have a radiator but it doesnt help too much) and the rooms don't have tv. Last day they change our room but still they have the same issues. By the way, the rooms were beautiful and big enough. They don't have restaurant but it doesn't really bother to us because there is a lot of choices nearby.

It was cold the first 2 nights but I had a space heater the 3rd night. Was not able to use the spa tub because there is no stopper and was told by the receptionist that that was not available in any of the rooms. There is no TV and be aware that there is a 7% surcharge if paying your bill by credit card, which I refused to pay since it was not mentioned in the booking and none of the other hotels I stayed at in Peru gave me this charge, and they all had TVs. The service from Jonathan who cooked my breakfasts was good and the decor was nice and cozy, but my room did not have a view of the city and even though I requested a room change to the top floor, it was denied.

Hotel people very nice and friendly. A couple of them are not good with English. Nice breakfast too that they cook for you. Good view on upper floors. Not a hostel but a small hotel, more like a bed and breakfast. Our room had 4 beds and allowed more than the usual limit of 3 in a room which was great. The price was right.

Maykquell & Gladys have created a very nice place, always welcoming and there are mkaing sure by any mean that you will have all you need. They can help you with visits, local recommandations for shops or food, and they will make sure you acclimate to the area. Confort in the rooms was great and breakfast is good.
