The property was beautiful, the staff was amazing and the fact that the cafe attached was both delicious and had outdoor seating was absolutely incredible… The only downside to our stay is that there was a huge youth field trip. The kids were probably about 10-13 years old and were terribly loud, running up and down the stairs, screaming and yelling in the hallways and the teachers didn’t do anything about it. They let them basically do whatever they wanted like they had no control over them. It was awful. The morning we were checking out, so were they. The kids were blocking every exit, every hallway, every set of stairs and we had to make our way downstairs to the reception area. When we finally made it down, more kids were blocking the only 2 exits to reception. There was a kid crying and throwing a fit right in front of one of the doors and the other door was being blocked by 15 other kids. One of the teachers looked at me and asked if I was trying to get to reception and I said yes. She replied “well you can use the other door” the door she was referring to was the door being blocked by the child throwing a fit. I just looked at her in shock. How was I supposed to exit, because as a mom and a teacher, I find it very inappropriate to talk to a child on a field with their school. Those teachers had absolutely zero control over those children. If you would like to stay here, it is absolutely beautiful but I strongly suggest you call and ask if there is a field trip.

Upgrade to room 10 was excellent but restaurant staff were grumpy and not lgbt friendly. The person who checked me in who has an office in the stairwell was the opposite and as a regular customer and guest was approachable, lgbt friendly and use tge correct pronouns to address myself. Room was massive, comfortable and in the 17 th century part of the former Manor House with a courtyard view

Clean rooms and well laid out. I went when some school groups were on and it wasn't very noisy which was good. The only downside was when I was in a room not reserved by a school group a teacher asked me to leave so they could have the children wait in there before they headed out.

I was shocked to learn that there was a charge for towels that really, should have been included in the £200 price tag for the room. Apart from that, I was happy with everything else.

Whitby is overpriced for overnight accommodation. Unless you are here for more than two nights the YHA is perfect. Great location (unless you don’t like walking uphill) beautiful views, free parking, basic but very comfortable beds and an amazing breakfast for £10 (2024) Excellent

Awesome location as it is next to the Whitby Abbey. Location is reachable if you are driving. If you arrive by train, be prepared to walk more than the 199 steps up to the Abbey. One downside is lockers are not available in the rooms to secure your belongings whilst you are out and about.
