I did not stay there. As I arrived, I was recovering from food poison. I checked in, and first, my room was not what I reserved in expedia. Then, the room had a strong odor to paint, as they were painting a room down the hall. The attendant came and used a strong deodorizing spray. Not sure whether the spray triggered me, but after i went for a walk, I felt nauseated. The manager, Sergio, kept speaking to me in English as he welcomed me, and I let him know I spoke Spanish. As I was explaining to his assistant that I felt il and my friend who lives in Bogotá offered to house me, as I was just recovering from food poisoning, Sergio immediately spoke to me in Spanish, in a non-friendly tone, explaining I could not get a refund. For the record, my reservation was non-refundable. I am not litigating this. Instead, I want to highlight how Sergio’s attitude of being a nice guy tailoring to clients in English flipped hi script on me, even though he saw me being physically ill. After some back and forth, he said they’ll charge the first night and will check with Expedia. Expedia emailed me a week later to tel me the hostal refused to provide any refund. Again, not litigating the reservation’s refund, as it was non-refundable. Just noting that as others here have expressed, Sergio the manager is two-faced. Lastly, the location of the place is less than ideal. It is in an uphill un-paved road at the end of the block. Bringing up ny luggage was a hazle, as the taxi could not go up!

Do not be fooled by the pictures. It’s dingy and dirty, zero amenities. There was coffee maker with no coffee powder provided, no towels in bathroom to wipe hands, bed is not a twin it’s single. Rooms are tight!!! There’s plenty of other options in the area. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS

Unfortunately the whole hostel was freezing when i arrived, there was no heating but thankfully when i turned on the hotplates it warmed up a little. The 1st night i got up to a flood in my room, although we weren't sure where it came from. The walls are very thin and on the 2nd morning someone started banging on something early in the morning and it was still going on when i left for the day. One of the staff knocked on my door on my last night to tell me I'd not paid, luckily i had the receipt on my phone. There was a sauna but when i went and had a look at it to warm up, it wasnt very hot so gave it a miss. The good stuff - the staff were as helpful as could be, esp considering Jose, the caretaker, didn't speak any English. And the location is very good for the old town, museums and tours.
