The hotel is refurbished (previously called White House Hotel) so quite smart but fairly dark inside the rooms as the decor has quite a bit of black. The hotel has a good free car park and 13 double ensuite bedrooms with walk-in showers. The bathroom floor can get quite slippery if wet as the shower has an open side. Bedrooms are on the first and second floor, but there isn't a lift, so it is not suitable if mobility issues. Worth asking for 1st floor rather than 2nd if you can't manage more than 1 flight of stairs. Ver comfortable beds. Bedrooms quite warm though it was cool outside, but bedroom and bathroom windows open and there seems to be an a.c. unit in the wardrobe. Tea and coffee facilities in the room. Also a coffee machine in the room but needs instructions. Fruit juice, tea or coffee and a tasty gluten free cooked breakfast (nicely cooked bacon, beans, tomato, egg cooked to suit, optional black pudding and toast). If you're gluten free, there aren't any cereal or pastries and you can't have the sausages or hash browns unfortunately.

Lovely restaurant but very busy when we arrived, so staff were rushed off their feet. Room was great. Bathroom was lovely. No air conditioning so we kept the window open. Quiet outside apart from birds waking us up at sunrise. Food in the restaurant was excellent although we had to wait for a table. There was no discount on offer for residents.

I was unfortunately in an incredibly warm room (in part due to weather, but also the orientation which meant it got the full evening sun and no breeze) - this was room 104. The room was a decent size and reasonably clean, but given the weather, which is it being made up with a duvet and no sheet underneath (between that and the bed). The bathroom had cracked floor tiles which were very uneven with sharp edges and there was toothpaste marks splashed all over the wall by the sink, which means the cleaning wasn't that thorough. Also the open ended shower ends up absolutely soaking the floor, so you have to mop it up with the bath mat. I should have stayed in a premier inn.

Comfortable stay, clean rooms and helpful staff. Room 107 is probably best avoided due to kitchen noise and smells

Cannot really fault The Sutherland. The room was spotless, the bathroom spotless, the bed comfortable. I stayed 2 nights for work the room, whilst small, was more than adequate for my needs. The restaurant is fantastic. The pace of service perfect for me, I did not feel at all rushed. The food was not only presented beautifully, but was delicious. I cannot recommend the duck breast highly enough! I stay in hotels regularly with my work and The Sutherland is now on my Go To list.

Staff were all courteous and Hotel is really nice. We had breakfast, lunch and dinner there and the food was amazing. Prices very reasonable. My only negative was the size of our double room! It was really only big enough for a single bed and we were very cramped. Bathroom was lovely though.
