The uniqueness of Mount Bromo is the shape of the body that is still connected between valleys and canyons with the caldera or sea of sand covering an area of 10 km/sq. Not only that, Mount Bromo has a crater with a diameter of about 800 km (from north to south) and about 600 km (from east to west). For areas that are considered dangerous, namely a circle with a radius of up to 4 km from the center of the crater

During the 20th and 21st centuries it was recorded that Mount Bromo had erupted several times at fairly regular intervals of 30 years. The biggest eruption occurred in 1974 and the last eruption occurred in 2016.

For residents around Mount Bromo, the Tengger tribe, Mount Bromo or Mount Brahma are believed to be the Holy Mountain. Once a year the people of Tengger hold the Yadnya Kasada or Kasodo ceremony. This ceremony takes place in a temple which is under the foot of Mount Bromo and continues to the top of Bromo. The ceremony is held at midnight to early morning every full moon around the 14th or 15th of the Kasodo (tenth) month according to the Javanese calendar.
