This Ryokan was absolutely perfect. Train station literally across the street. Quiet area and the property itself was spectacular. Rooms were spacious, food was delicious. Also, onsen near the lake was peaceful. I would highly recommend staying here.

40年来の親友と大学時代の思い出深い飯田線で旅しよう！と湯谷温泉を選びました。ネットでは分かりにくいけど、口コミが良かった宿を選びました。外観は古いけど昭和レトロな内装と、清潔な施設内、気取らない雰囲気、静かで温かな方々のサービス、生花がかわいくあちこちに飾られて細かな気遣いを感じました。窓や露天風呂からの川の風景に日常を忘れます。20分くらい歩いた山深い中にあるハーブやアロマを作っている蒸留所は素敵でした。

The service was excellent. The staff went above and beyond to make our stay a positive experience. The only reason for putting 4 stars is that the bathroom in our room had a strong ammonia smell. Also, as a heads up, I went with my elderly mother and the building had steep stairs to get to the bath and dining, and the room was not exactly barrier free and we tripped over a couple of times (We didn't think much of it at the time of booking, so it's our fault) Otherwise, it was a great!

宿はやや古く老朽感は否めないが、この古さも逆にレトロな感じで懐かしさや郷愁を感じる。なにせ部屋の眼前に豊富な水量で岩間をながれる鳳来峡が美しくロケーションはとても良い。特に紅葉の頃は最高ではないかな。
