Q2 2026 · April 1 – June 30
The Quarter in One Line

Southeast Asians traveled farther this quarter, and the region's own coastline led the way.

Interest tilted toward East Asia, with China's second-tier cities rising fastest. But at home, beach and island destinations rose almost everywhere. It is a regional story, drawn entirely from Traveloka's proprietary insights across the five largest Southeast Asian markets.

01 Breakouts

China's second-tier cities are Southeast Asia's breakout story

These are the destinations rising fastest across the region this quarter, ranked from the strongest riser down. The clear story is China's second-tier cities: Kunming, Chongqing and Chengdu land in the top four, powered by expanding visa-free access and new direct routes.

The Traveloka Takeaway

The region's demand is flowing north, and the breakout names are smaller Chinese cities that offer more cultural and scenic experiences, now within easy reach thanks to visa-free access.

1
Kunming

Gateway to Yunnan, drawing travelers after cooler climates, scenery and a slower pace.

2
Shenzhen

Riding a new wave of leisure interest as visitors look beyond China's traditional gateways into the Greater Bay Area.

3
Chongqing

Once niche, its dramatic skyline and social-media fame have made it one of China's most talked-about cities.

Ranked 4–10
4 Chengdu Southeast Asia's fastest-rising China city, powered by food culture, giant pandas and an easy pace of travel.
5 Shanghai Expansive flight links and visa waivers keep China's showcase city climbing across the region.
6 Beijing Still the draw for travelers wanting the history, culture and landmark sights of the capital.
7 Da Nang Southeast Asia's strongest homegrown riser, on beaches, family trips and the pull of Bà Nà Hills.
8 Seoul Culture, entertainment and shopping keep Seoul a perennial favorite across the region.
9 Tokyo A global favorite, with steady growth in every Southeast Asian market we track.
10 Osaka Food, nightlife and easy access to Kansai keep Osaka a fixture on regional itineraries.
02 Zooming In

Each market's fastest risers

Beyond the regional board, every market has its own ranking of the destinations rising fastest, at home and abroad. Each list starts with the market’s biggest mover.

The Traveloka Takeaway

Every market has its own favorites. Seoul is the one name almost everyone agrees on, landing in the international top five of four of our five markets. After that, tastes split by market:

  • Vietnam's domestic top five is entirely coastal, from Phú Quốc to Hội An.
  • Singapore's international five is all East Asia — Japan, Korea and three Chinese second-tier cities.
  • Thailand's domestic list is topped by up-and-coming Isan towns like Nakhon Phanom and Sakon Nakhon, not the usual gateways.

03 Next Destination

Where search is climbing fast

Next Destination tracks where search interest is climbing fastest, an early read on demand building well before it fully lands. Here is each market's standout, side by side.

The Traveloka Takeaway

Search is the leading indicator. Where interest is climbing fastest today is usually where the trips, and the headlines, land next quarter.

04 Wildcard

Almaty: the frontier on the radar

Three destinations are pulling in far more interest than travel this quarter, and the boldest is Almaty. Kazakhstan's mountain-ringed former capital is searched far more than it is booked across all five markets, the widest browse-versus-book gap of any non-China destination we track. With snow-capped peaks on the city's doorstep and flight links steadily widening, Central Asia is arriving on Southeast Asia's radar.

Also on the radar
Hua Hin, Thailand

Thailand's low-key royal beach town, the quieter coast travelers are eyeing as they look past Phuket and Pattaya. Interest is climbing fast while the crowds haven't caught on.

Qingdao, China

A coastal Chinese city few could place a year ago, now drawing rising interest across Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam alike, helped by new direct routes and the China–ASEAN visa-free window.

The Traveloka Takeaway

All three tell the same story: interest is running well ahead of travel. That gap is often the earliest sign of where the region heads next.
