Sentosa Island, Singapore

Easily accessible from the city center by train or cable car, Sentosa Island is Singapore's closest answer to a tropical paradise. There's something for everyone on this island, whether you’re looking for a day packed with excitement or a relaxed afternoon by the beach. The island is so popular among tourists, you'd be surprised to find out that it was formerly known as Pulau Belakang Mati, or the Island of Death from Behind! Today, it is home to Resort World Sentosa, which features the ever-popular Universal Studios Singapore theme park and S.E.A. Aquarium. For Singaporean day-trippers visiting from the city, however, the island's true charms lie in the beaches of Siloso, Palawan, and Tanjong. You can travel between the sandy beaches — stopping by an array of historic spots and nature reserves — using the island's free train, bus, and tram services.
