Next to waterfall
Hotel is located next to the waterfall and 5 minutes drive to blue pond. The Japanese style room (futon bed ) is big for 2 people and a beautiful view out to the trees. It snowed the night before so it was beautiful the next morning. Dinner and breakfast were included in the room package aND they were great.. The front desk and waiting staff speaks limited English but friendly and willing to help. The hotel is very secluded and a long way to drive to biei town so do take the half board room deal. Overall we had a great stay and will be back if we do visit biei again.

Nice location to stay.
Good location for stay. Room is a bit old. The room we stayed has gas smell. Dinner is ok. Breakfast is good. Nearby the hotel there's a bridge with mountains and waterfall views. There are wild animals around like raccoon and deers.

Better options, especially for non-fluent Japanese speakers
My husband and I were looking forward to our stay in Shirogane, but unfortunately this hotel was the big letdown of our 2-week Hokkaido honeymoon. We booked the hotel in order to hike Mt Tokachi-Dake, and it was the only nearby accommodation available for reservation in english. While we booked a non-smoking 6-tatami mat room, we somehow ended up in a tiny, tiny room in the Annex that smelled intensely of smoke. There was no air-conditioning as listed, and the lack of air flow was a big issue. Due to lots of tour groups, there were apparently no other rooms for our stay. We also booked a half board option at the hotel and had sent along an email and left a voicemail requesting vegetarian options. These communications didn't make it through and one night I was unable to eat anything except rice amid a very nice looking kaiseki dinner. With our elementary level Japanese, none of these problems could be properly addressed...it was just a challenging situation, and one I've never encountered in 4+ trips to Japan. After hiking Mt Tokachi-dake we ate at a tiny hotel at the base of the trailhead. It cost 1/4 of the price of Shirogane, had english-speaking staff, and was in a great location. For westerners looking to experience the outdoors, I might consider this option. The one redeeming feature of the hotel was the onsen. My husband said the male onsen afforded amazing views of the falls. The female outdoor onsen wasn't great, but the indoor one was lovely.

Good location
Stayed here for one night when visiting Biei. It's in a good location, 5 minutes to the Blue pond and right next to the Shirahige Waterfall. I think everything is good but can't say excellent. The hotel is clean, food is ok and same as the hotspring. It's good for a night but can't say very memorable.

foreigners welcomed???
We stayed there for one night with four persons and rented two rooms. First: nobody speaks English at the reception, we had to communicate with leaflets and arms and legs. Second: the hotel has got nice rooms (we saw them) but we got (maybe because we are foreigners and stayed there for one night only) the worst rooms, they had. In the evening we enjoyed the smell from the kitchen and in the mornng at 05:30 the air conditioner started to work: no sleep anymore. One of the bathrooms was moldy. We had to carry big suitcases via four staircases without any help. Elevator is not availble for the basement. Compliant at the reception: no understanding of English. Dinner is at 18:30. If its too early for you: go to 7/11 or Lamson. We did. Summary: it can be a nice hotel, if you play their rules. But they try as hard as they can to make you feel, that foreigners are not welcomed. Never again.
