Great downtown Phuket experience
We had been to Phuket several times before, but never to the downtown/ old town area, so we picked the Novotel Phokeethra as a base to look around. Our experience can only be described as excellent, from beginning to end. On arrival we were greated by happy obliging staff who took our luggage and ushered us to reception. Our room was spacious and beautifully appointed in light contemporary decor. The location turned out to be excellent, placing us just where we wanted to be. It is close to the historic old town, both traditional and night markets and Robinsons. It is also not far by taxi to the Great Budha and the hilltop Tunk Ka restaurant, both well worth visiting. The general manager Cedric was very helpful and attentive with useful local information. We received further helpful tips from Ming (F&B manager) and his very capable assistant Dao, who both went out of their way to ensure that our short stay was memorable. Breakfast, restaurant and bars were all excellent with great food and service. All in all, we came away feeling very happy with our choice of stay in Phuket Town and have no hesitation in recommending the Novotel Phokeethra.

The Novotel staff made me instantly at home in trying circumstance
After my wife suffered a major stroke 5 days into a 14-day holiday to Phuket she was admitted at first to the Patong Hospital before being transferred to Bangkok Hospital Phuket. Our travel insurance company put me up in the Patong Hyatt for 3 nights (never used it because it was too far from the hospital) and the Australian consul, a nice young chap called Craig Ferguson, suggested the Novotel Phokeethra was much closer. I persuaded the travel insurance people to put me up there and it was an outstanding choice. I have stayed in many hotels throughout Asia, and while this Novotel may not be as luxurious as some others it has the best and most engaging staff I have ever met, from the general manager down to the lowliest young trainee. I am staying at this hotel as I write this review - it has been renovated and still has a wonderful ambience - for perhaps another 14 days while I await a medivac flight for my wife back to Melbourne. I rarely use the bedroom and mainly use the hotel for breakfast and showering.....but sometimes the need for a bed becomes too strong, and I always feel very much at home here when the staff are always so very welcoming. When I am feeling low due to my wife's very serious medical condition the staff always manage to make me smile. Nothing is too much trouble, and general manager, Cedric Besler, and executive assistant manager, Sumontha Urvois, deserve medals for attracting and training such exceptional staff. The buffet breakfast is excellent. A pleasant blend of western and Asian cuisines. The lush green gardens at the front of the establishment provide a precious escape from reality. And the 3rd floor swimming pool, although apparently rarely used, is more than refreshing. My only criticism? I prefer dining under the grand old verandah, as I find the air conditioning in the restaurant a little too too cold.

Nice new hotel however....
Its a beautifully decorated and fitted hotel. Things seem fine at the moment. However, there is no concierge staff to help with our luggage when we arrived, he was chatting away at the counter and only greeted us and help with the luggage after our check in. In the room everything's great HOWEVER, the pillow case and our duvet cover is stinky. It is as if the cover were all not dried completely and then being put on the bed again. It is really unpleasant. I'd call the front desk to get the house keeping to come and change everything. While waiting for my room service and room bed linen, duvet cover and pillow cover changes..... hence this feedback.....

Novotel Phuket Phokeethra in Phuket Town
Branded 5-star hotel but feels more like a 4-star hotel. Ideally located in the heart of the Phuket Town and convenient walking distance to restaurants, local market and the old Robinsons Mall next to it...

Dining at Novotel
We decided to stay in hotel for dinner and enjoy some great steaks. When we arrived at 21.00 the place was entirely empty; we wondered why we were the only guests. We ordered sirloin steaks, both medium rare and well done. The latter one turned out to be rather medium rare. But even worse, all 3 steaks were everything but tender. Meat was very chewy. When we complained, the response was that it would be pointless to have kitchen cook new steaks as they would taste the same! They offered us to order something different from the menu, however our evening was ruined as we just wanted to enjoy a good steak. I must add that the female staff serving us was very kind and apologized multiple times. She visibly regretted this misfortune. The Creme Brulee is based on cocunut and taste has absolutely nothing to do with the classic original. So all in all our dinner costing more than 2000 BHT was disappointing.
