Great get away from the craziness
Perfect place to get away from it all. It’s a 20-30 minutes boat ride from Tonsai pier so plan to stay at least two days. And for those that say the staff is rude, you are crazy. They were great, not too much attention, just the right amount. Restaurant was good, bar was good. Rooms were pretty new. No WiFi in the rooms though.

Paradise With Caveats
For one unlike some of the negative reviews here I don't need to reregister myself to write an honest review. Before booking this hotel be aware of two things. First you are in Thailand. If you don't understand the culture or the way to speak to Thais this hotel is not the place for you. Perhaps choose a more European friendly hotel. Second you are on an island in Thailand. Ever heard the expression island time? If not look it up and understand it before you come here. Our greeting on the wharf was functional. However once I engaged in a Thai way with the guys holding the umbrella and plaques they become very friendly and told us some information. For example the resort is owned by the same family that owns Relax. We had an hours wait for the shuttle. No biggie. Went into town booked a snorkelling trip, got a drink and came back. Check in was a little unusual. Amy sat us down at a table in the restaurant and got us to fill the forms out. I cant recall if we got a welcome drink or not. It wasn't important as I was a bit distracted by Amy being a ladyboy. If you aren't used to Ladyboys or have an issue with them this may turn you off. Fortunately I am not cast this way. Amys grasp of English was adequate for our purposes. The first room we were given was at the non pool end of the resort. The room was large and I liked it. My wife less so as she felt very isolated. Nonetheless we were only there for one night. However the TV wasn't able to connect to the satellite. I walked down to reception (note no phones in rooms), and explained to Amy how I was useless and I was unable to work the TV and obviously needed someone to show me. Within island time two staff showed up with a ladder and started to move the satellite dish about to try and get a signal. After being unable to do so, they moved us to a different room. No issue with complaints if you handle them the right way. Coming down on Thai people as its their fault will not work this will get them off side and wont result in the desired outcome. The new room was way closer to reception and overlooked the pool. It turned out it was smaller. this was why they had given us the original room thinking size is important to us. It was a compliment to us to give us the larger room. However we preferred the second room. It was a few flights of stairs from reception and had a more involved feel with the rest of the resort. Location This is the largest negative to my mind. The location is too far from Tonsai pier. We had come to phi phi for no other reason than to do snorkelling trips and I didn't want to be booked into a noisy hotel. So choose one I thought was a bit out. I didn't realise how far out. Two problems with this. I had to pay a water taxi to meet the snorkelling trip I booked, at a 1000 THB to Tonsai pier and I had to pay coming back and as it was after dark the water taxis at the pier ripped into me something chronic. Eventually I managed to negotiate to 1200 THB. Now arose the next issue...The resort is located on a rock/coral beach. This beach is very shallow. As the tide was low the taxi couldn't motor into the resort and in fact initially refused to go until the tide changed...which would be hours later. I persuaded in best thai cultural way I knew I wanted to go back and managed to get agreement. The trip back was quick until about 300 metres off shore when the long tail stopped completely and we started poling into the shallows. With a torch I realised we were in less than 100mm of water for most of this last part of the journey. Perhaps consider this if going to the pier and want to return. Bed Forget the room. Forget the decorations. Forget the live critters (more on this shortly). I have paid for a place to sleep. To me the Bed is the critical factor. We normally don't stay in 3 star places due to the bed. However here Phi Phi Phu Chalet Beach Reosrt shines. The bed was as good as the 5 star I am staying in last night. Comfortable and just all over excellent. If I was staying longer than one night I would have liked a different pillow. To my mind too soft. Noise This is the other reason I don't usually stay in 3 star places. I was tired after the tour I did. However I am a light sleeper and normally wake to anything. I wasn't woken once by any external noises. No concrete mixers, no cats crying, no sweeping...however I hadn't upset the Thai hosts either. Room Layout The layout was very good. Best description would be master bed room with adjoining dressing room with adjoining bathroom. Very nice layout. Critters Okay...get over it. This is a more environmentally engaged location than others. Therefore creepy crawlies are likely to visit. The wife had a mouse come to visit. For some reason this made her leave the room and go to reception to complain. I don't get it. I think if I was the mouse I would have left the room and gone to reception to complain. Large white woman screaming at me and everything. View I cant complete this review without commenting on the view from the rooms. Both rooms we had, had massive plate glass windows towards the sea. From these a largely unobstructed panoramic view of the ocean could be seen whilst lying in bed. There was no way known any of the rooms we saw could be dark and unwelcoming with this size window installed. Food I ate a pizza at the restaurant for dinner. It took a while...but remember this is island time. I am reasonably certain they made the dough and the base by hand only when I ordered it. I suspect all the food is made from scratch on ordering so be aware this may make a longer than expected wait compared to other eating places. Having said the above the pizza I had was fantastic. More importantly priced very fairly compared to the main land. Breakfast we only had French toast as we were due to take the 8.00am shuttle back to the pier and were catching a later ferry so thought we would kill some time by having a brunch when we got to the pier. Shuttle As were waiting for the 8.00am boat, a storm moved in. It wasn't all that bad however the wife thought we were stuck for the rest of the day with visibility falling to less than 50m due to the rain. Guess what? The 8.00am boat didn't leave until the worst of the storm was passed at about 9.00am. The hotel did check we weren't booked on the 8.30am ferry however I am not sure we could have made it anyway. Be aware in this environment you are at mercy of nature. Nothing you can do. All the complaining in the world wont change weather. Yes you have to wade out to the boat. Uhmm I'm sorry...so what? In this climate you don't want to be wearing leather shoes and long pants etc. Wear shorts. If catching a plane after leaving here take your to go gear in a carry on bag and change at the airport toilets or change rooms. Come on...give me a break ...complaining about this build a bridge and get over it. Overall I really enjoyed staying at the resort. If it was closer to town I would definitely book it again. I think it was brilliant value for money. As it isn't close to town I would suggest you consider booking a night or so here and organise a tour with the hotel. This would be more cost effective than what I did. Fantastic place to really relax and get away from it all. When we arrived at the pier, we approached the staff member with our hotel sign, who told us we had to wait an hour before we were allowed onto our boat to be taken to the hotel. Once we arrived, we honestly thought we had been taken to the wrong hotel. Where was this luxurious beach which had been advertised on their website? There was no 'private beach' which was one of the reasons we had booked this hotel!!! Also the hotel was in the middle of nowhere, which made us feel very secluded and uncomfortable. Also, the only access to the main town is via the hotels long tail boat, which they charged 250 baht per person for each way (also not stated upon booking). So after checking in and being taken to our room, which was very dark and had minimal lighting, the air con did not work (complained twice and not 1 person came to look at it). The service at the restaurant was poor and slow. Once we had ordered, 2 diffferent people came up to us and confirmed our food order, despite already ordering and confirming it once. The starters took 1 hour and 15 minutes to come (the restaurant was not busy as we were the only guests there, very unusual as there seemed to be more staff then visitors at this hotel). Next, out mains came half an hour later but the dishes were not brought together. My main dish was served then my boyfriends main dish was served 10 minutes later. Additionally, not once were we offered a drink refill or asked if our food was ok. Finally, after waiting 25 minutes, we had to walk up to reception to ask for our bill. Not the standard you expect when you are paying £100 a night for a hotel!! The next day, we decided to take the hotels boat into phi phi town, we were told by the receptionist we could return via the boat at the following times; 13:30, 16:00, 17:00. After a day of exploring, we decided to make our way back to the hotel. We arrived at the pier at 15:30 in plenty of time to catch the 16:00 boat. After keeping us waiting for 40 minutes we were then refused to get on the boat back to our hotel by a member staff who was not even working for our hotel. We were told we had to wait another 50 minutes for another boat to pick us up and return to the hotel (the boat was supposed to pick us up at 17:00. However, the boat did not leave till 17:30!!) once we arrived back at the hotel we complained to the receptionist and asked to speak to the manager about how awful their shuttle boat service was. Weirdly enough, there was no manager around to speak to us and the hotel receptionist did not seem to understand our complaint, therefore we had no compensation not even a sorry for their inconvenience. Upon checking out at 11 am, we were told the shuttle bus was not leaving till half 12, keeping us waiting around for an hour and a half. Also it was very noisey, after being woken up at half 6 each morning by the cleaners brushing up outside our rooms and talking very loudly, with no consideration with people trying to sleep. Additionally, the receptionist tried to hit us with a massive bill of services which we did not use!! As we did not use this service we reufused to pay and asked to speak to a manager, but once again there was no manager around to deal with yet another complaint. Therefore we asked to speak to the manager on the phone. Once we got hold of the manager we as guests were called liars and the manager then hung up on us. We requested to speak again but were told the manager does not want to speak to us (very unprofessional). The manager was very rude and very unhelpful. We then asked to ring our booking company but the receptionist refused once again. As we refused to pay for a service we did not use, the woman started to shout and scream in our face telling us she will keep us from leaving the hotel unless we paid up. After arguing and be not being treated with respect she told us to walk to the nearest beach with all our luggage as we were not allowed on their boat to get to the pier. The staff here were very threatening, aggressive and abusive towards us. Please, think twice before booking here and wasting your money.

On booking it stated that there is free transfers but that apparently only counted on the way there and they charged us to get back to the main pier upon checkout. When arrived there was no luxury beach as stated in the description or pictures, the sand was full of rubbish and rocks. Staff took forever to check us in which isn't what you want when you're standing in 40 degree heat and no air conditioning, only to be told our room is about 200 steps up. Our room was at the very top of the resort which was a nightmare every time we had a long day, it was very basic and hot water lasted about a minute and cold water pressure was very low. The cleaners clearly wet the bed as they started cleaning about 5:30am sweeping and moving our outside furniture around causing ridiculous noise. Very odd the fact there is more chef's and staff than there is people staying in the hotel, there was none English speaking staff which resulted in us using google translate to get a sentence across. The hotel cost us 1000baht each time we left to go to the pier where everything is located. The rester aunt was quiet with no music which made it awkward when there's 5000 staff glaring at you from all angles, the staff confirmed our food order 3 times after ordering. Our starters took 1 hour to come and our mains come at different times and we had to ask consistently for more drinks even though we were the only people in the resteraunt. When we had to check out at 11.00 there was only 1 taxi shuttle boat at 12.30 meaning you had to sit around for an hour and a half wasting your day. We also got hit with a bill for all the taxi rides to and from the pier which wasn't explained to us on arrival, we argued this case and asked to speak to a a manager who on the phone called us liars and started to get abusive. We tried to ask to contact AGODA customer service but they did not listen and refused us to use the phone, a couple of staff members started to get abusive and threatening whilst shouting at us which made us feel intimidated. After refusal to pay the taxi shuttle bill we got told to walk to another resort (20mins away) to get another taxi as they or the manager did not want to talk to us to sort out the issue. DO NOT STAY HERE IF YOU DONT WANT TO BE THREATENED AND TREATED VERY VERY BADLY, WORST HOTEL ME AND MY GIRLFRIEND HAVE EVER STAYED IN.

Very noisy
This Chalet hotel is advertised as a peaceful and relaxing place to stay, which it probably will be once the cement mixers finish 6am building the road in front of the reception, also there are numerous cats calling through out the night, no sympathy from the hotel staff, one was downright rude, gardeners smoking outside our room & near kids playing in swimming pool. We stayed 4 nights & was made to feel unwelcome. You arrive on The small beach in front of the hotel by Thai long boat you need to wear shorts & flip flops or take your shoes & trousers off, not so good if your traveling internationally afterward. The larger beach nearby is awash with plastic bottles and rubbish, I was genuinely shocked at the amount of garbage on this beach I suppose it's not the hotels fault it's everywhere now.
