VietJet Air (VJ) is a Vietnamese private Low-Cost Carrier (LCC) that covers domestic as well as international routes. Operated from two hubs, Hanoi Noi Bai International Airport and Ho Chi Minh City Tan Son Nhat International Airport, it flies to approximately 35 destinations throughout Vietnam and Southeast Asia countries. VietJet Air is now gradually expanding its routes throughout the Asia-Pacific region, including Singapore, China, Thailand, Korea, Cambodia, Taiwan, Myanmar, and Japan. VietJet is headquartered at Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.
As of 2015, VietJet Air has already owned 30 aircraft consisting of Airbus A319-100, Airbus A320-200, Airbus A320neo, Airbus A3221-200, and Airbus A321neo. With more than 100 aircraft on order, VietJet plans to meet growing demands of travelers as well as to ensure it meets the network expansion schedule in the near future.
Staying true to its slogan “Fly with us and you’ll like us immediately”, VietJet Air always goes the extra miles in regards to service excellence. Through its slogan, VietJet Air also introduces its identity as a well-qualified yet fun and entertaining low-cost carrier.
Five years after its maiden flight, VietJet has earned many national and international awards, including “Gold Award 2015” given by Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA), “Company of The Year” in the category of Aerospace & Defense and Transportation at the Asia Pacific Stevie Awards 2015, and Golden Star Award for Quality, given by Business Initiative Directions (B.I.D), Switzerland. Spend & Use Advisory Magazine even declared VietJet as “the most friendly transportation and best promotion airline in Vietnam”.
For both domestic and international routes, passengers may purchase the vast choices of in-flight meal from its on-board café, such as instant food, snacks, and drinks. Passengers can also pre-order nine hot meals over the Internet at least 36 hours prior to departure.
VietJet Air’s passengers are privileged to get free 7 kg hand baggage and up to 32 kg checked baggage. Passengers who wish to carry more than the free checked baggage allowance may purchase additional baggage for a minimum of 15 kg.

VietJet has been granted an approval for flying in November 2007 by Vietnamese Minister of Finance. However, it was not until 2011 that this airline finally operated and carried passengers. VietJet planned to commence flight in 2008 but it kept getting delayed to take off because of the global economic crisis and branding conflicts with Civil Aviation Administration of Vietnam.
In February 2010, fellow Low-Cost Carrier AirAsia announced its joint-venture plan with VietJet by purchasing a 30% stake in the VietJet Aviation, but then called off due to the airline launch setbacks.
On 25 December 2011, VietJet finally made its first flight from Ho Chi Minh City to Hanoi. Soon enough, VietJet has attracted high number of domestic and worldwide travelers to fly with it. In 2014, VietJet was able to carry a total of 10 million passengers. The number then increased to 25 million passengers in 2015.
VietJet Air’s flight attendant uniform mainly features red color, matching the color seen on its planes. Flight attendants present the lively characteristic with red t-shirts and short pleated tartan pants, adopting the vintage style. Completing the looks, flight attendants also wear tartan hats and red low-heel shoes.
