Family-operated, carefully renovated building of interesting history and furnishings. We enjoyed an outstanding breakfast and found attentive staff to demonstrate classic Austrian hospitality. A neighborhood restaurant suggested to us served delicious Vienna food at a reasonable price. The Scwalbe is a quiet, comfortable hotel easily accessible by the efficient publics transportation system, even though first glance might seem to indicate that the hotel's location is far from town. Not so! A good choice for vacationers, families, business clients or students.

This hotel is quite a gem, in a neighborhood where you wouldn't expect a hotel at all. It's located a bit away from the downtown ring strasse's, but it's a two block walk to the subway, and then a ten minute subway ride to the heart of town. Once you master the subway system, you're set. Hotel breakfast is quite an elegant affair, with cut fruit, pastries, coffee's, cheeses, etc. in a nice dining room. Bedding is the epitime of German comfort, with a nice thick down comforter. Great value for your money. I had reserved a single room with a shared bath, but when I arrived, all that was left was a room with a private bath which was great.

Friendly warm welcome. Room was cleaned and towels changed daily. The hotel has a slight quirkiness in that the dining room had some theatrical attributes. Traditional old building with great character. The breakfast was superb each day, comprising fresh fruits, cereals, yoghurts, cold meats, smoked salmon, a choice of scrambled or boiled eggs and a basket of bread rolls and croissants, butter and local jams. We booked through Expedia thus making a saving but the room was on the third (top) floor. We had a small annex as we entered the room with a dining table laid with glasses and bottle opener, tiled floor, shower and hand basin before entering a second door into the bedroom itself. This was carpeted, light and airy and very spacious. The toilets were across the landing but we were the only people on that floor and did not meet anyone else throughout our stay. Our son and family booked directly and paid more, had a cot provided for the baby and a traditional en suite room with complimentary slippers.

It wasn't that I was unhappy with this room, but I wasn't thrilled either. It was an easy 10 min walk to the train station which could get you to West Bahnhoff in about 4 stops or so, which was great, but other than that I have very many mixed feelings about this place. It just felt a little odd, but for one night, I'm not gonna complain too much. And it wasn't that bad. The room was big enough, no a/c, shower was too small, but the room was clean. Was just odd.

If you want to experience real Austrian housing, try this hotel that was built about 1900s. It's run by a friendly family who is very helpful and hospitable. Our stay is very pleasant. Even though it's little far from the city center, last stop of the train, and have to walk another 10-15 mins to the hotel, yet I felt I was really experiencing Austrian life instead of just a tourist. Very nice breakfast that's included in the price. Different kinds of ham, cheese, bread, juice....feel real Austrian daily life. We didn't see many foreigners in the restaurant. I guess mostly local. That's nice cause we wanted to experience Viennese. The only thing I would suggest is to keep the drainage better condition. Water wasn't going through well in the shower and sink. But we didn't mind very much cause that's normal to an old building. Yet it's a hotel, Schwalbe will be perfect if they can maintain it well. O, they gave us little surprising treats when we left. So nice...
