Very grand and well maintained public areas. Usually have a nice stay here and have been a number of times. Bit underwhelmed this time. Given room facing nowhere other than a brick wall, bed rock hard, had to fold the duvet and sleep on one half of that, and mold evident in the bathroom. Entering or leaving hotel and you run the gauntlet of the chain smokers club hanging around the front door. Not quite sure this adds to the ambience in a positive way. Notwithstanding this, staff as ever lovely, and it is a grand, albeit fading, building in Blackpool, where to be fair, hotels are not really known for their luxury. Would i go back.. yeah i probably would, but certainly not my best trip and stay here.

The hotel is a very grand affair, but is in need of decorating throughout. The room was clean, but attention to detail could be better, there was a good layer of dust on the shaver socket in the bathroom. The breakfast was lovely and the dining room staff were also lovely, which made our stay!

The hotel is a classic looking building but it needs updating in terms of replacing or improving the furniture. Window ledges missing paint. They promote the palm court for the nice dining experience but it lacks items such as tablecloths. The service was ok but they need to look at where they place the staff who have been recruited as part of the diversity of peoples skills which they have been awarded. I’m all for this but some staff clearly are stressed at the breakfast serving time frame. We asked one gentleman for a pot of hot water five times politely, he went into a panic. We also asked for extra pillows when we arrived, 9 hours later and five attempts from which we eventually had them. I believe it’s under new owners do I can clearly see the difference after 5 years when we last came. I think they are trying to cut corners and it doesn’t befit a classic hotel like this one. I would go back but they need to sort the place out, missing lights, carpets covered in black tape, I’m sure all this can be done for a listed building.

My room allocation initially was dreadful, we were put into a room above a noisy smoking area. The next room was okay, but the bedding was terribly poor. The operations manner was extremely helpful as was the lady who would escort us to the breakfast table. I was extremely impressed that my lost property from May was still at the hotel. The quality in sausages seemed inconsistent but we were happy to find berries for our yoghurt and granola!
