We asked to cancel multiple times due to the wildfires since I have severe asthma. We also requested a refund. Expedia said they sent the request and were following up. Sun Mountain Lodge said they didn’t get it. Expedia never followed up with me. Sun Mountain Lodge refused a refund.

This hotel did not live up to its potential. The setting and views are incredible, but the hotel is a bit run-down. The carpet in our room was stained and dirty. There were no blankets available. The tea pitcher did not work. The beds were just average. The restaurants were good with excellent service. Overall, we enjoyed our stay, mostly due to the setting, but this hotel needs updating.

We enjoyed our one night here but the lodge room was not to our liking. It was in need of a refresh and the couch/hideabed cover was in need of replacement or to just go away. We were fit to be able to move to a room (115) in one of the out buildings which had a nice deck although a queen bed. This room was much more spacious but the chairs were worn and tattered and the metal light fixture over the table was too low due to poor placement and was a safety hazard for tall people. Overall, the buildings are worn, the decking and wooden walkways worn and what used to be rustic are now worn out. We have been going here through the years since the 1999s and although it still has charm and is well located for gorgeous views it is in need of some additional investment to bring it up to a better standard.

The reception staff was very friendly as were the servers in the restaurant and bar. However, for the most part, our stay was very average to poor from that point on. Problems: Fridge was not plugged in, ice machine was very dirty, the breakfast, which in past had been amazing, was not great. Lastly, the last time we stayed, between 4 and 5 years ago, we communicated that the furniture was not comfortable and were informed that it was being addressed. It hasn't. Since the air quality was poor we stayed inside wanting to relax and read but were terribly uncomfortable. Additionally, the bed could use a refresh as well. My wife did like the pillows though.

Front desk personnel were less than friendly. We arrived about an hour before the official check in time of 4. Not at all surprised that a room wasn’t ready, but staff didn’t offer to store our luggage, just said we were ‘welcome to hang out’, and they would text when room was ready. When I returned (at 4:30), after never receiving any text message, I was asked again to produce id and credit card and when I mentioned that I had already done so the clerk said, she didn’t care and that she wasn’t giving a key to anyone without going thru the whole process…again. Staff in the bar were lovely.

Wonderful location and resort. Rooms and facilities are great. Pool area really nice for relaxing in the afternoon - amazing views. Did the horse riding (Kathleen is excellent), kayaking and some pickleball. Overall a great stay. Gave 4 stars instead of 5 because of the food options - for the standard of the resort, the food is disappointing. Overpriced and not that great.
