Beautiful room. Beautiful property. Great breakfast and breakfast staff. Walking the stair can be slippery and hard for older people. Some staff at front desk can be very impatient and busy to help except one lady who is English.

Amazing breakfast spread. Spacious trullo room. Plenty of private outdoor seating for exquisite sunsets. Delightful spa. ZERO parking. Park in new town and notify hotel for shuttle.

The location of this property is amazing with a shared terrace with a stunning view, the room was cozy and clean, the staff is welcoming, great breakfast and the termae on the premises is a big plus to unwind and detoxify.

Matera offers an experience no other can. The hotel was amazing. Huge selection of breakfast options, spa services, clean cave like rooms, and views to die for. We hope to return one day. Thank you for an amazing 4 days.

Overall we were happy with our room. The location was great. The pool & spa was brillant and well worth the money. The only issue would be that the bathroom was looking a bit tired. The toilet seat was broken and the silicone needs replacing around the bath.

We stayed in Junior Suite #84, located in the dependance, a separate building from the main hotel. The room was incredibly unique — the bathroom was built right into the cave, and the overall aesthetic was both historic and beautiful. Best of all, the private terrace offered absolutely stunning views of Matera. A true highlight of our stay was the underground thermal spa in the main hotel — a magical, almost otherworldly experience not to be missed. That said, we did encounter a significant issue with the air conditioning. The room temperature could not be set below 77°F (25°C), and despite our complaints, we were told that was just how the system worked. Unfortunately, this made the room uncomfortably warm at night, and we didn’t sleep well for two nights. We requested a fan, but it never arrived. While we appreciated that the hotel comped our spa charges, the lack of resolution around the AC was disappointing. All in all, the setting and design are unforgettable, but in the summer heat, the climate control may be a deal-breaker for some guests.

Lovely hotel with fantastic breakfast service. Reception and spa staff were abrupt at times, bordering on rude. Overall good value the rate.

Incredible sandstone cave bedroom . Spacious and atmospheric. Cool and quiet. Jacuzzi tub. Delicious breakfast with many local products. Excellent coffee. Staff were bright and cheerful. Big shout out to Val who went above and beyond in tying my dates together. The spa is a real treat at the end of a day discovering the many levels of Matera. The staff there too are excellent. Thank you Jenny for the wonderful massage! This place is uniquely positioned on the quiet side of the Sassi. Almost all of the rooms have a balcony or terrace with dramatic views. It’s ancient history and you’re cocooned within it. Unique.

Extremely beautiful view and unique place however they charged us for using the swimming pools which is unusual and they didn’t tell us about this when we wanted to go in, during check out we found out that we had to pay. Expedia also doesn’t mention that the pool is 18+ and my twelve year old daughter was really looking forward to it and was later distressed when we were told that it was only for adults.

Great hotel and the suite was excellent. However, the main issue for us was that the air conditioning couldn’t cool the entire suite, making it very hot at night and very difficult to sleep. Not worth the money.

Couldn’t get the room thermostat to adjust but not a big deal. A beautiful hotel in a stunning location with an incredible view. We will be back.

Lovely property in Matera, conveniently located. We had a large clean family room. We booked the spa and had the whole place to ourselves.

Very average property but centrally located for the historic city centre. Most off-putting was the very unfriendly reception staff (bordering on rude). Clean and spacious room but didn’t really get the cave dwelling feeling.
