Wonderful treat to stay at this hotel. The water view from our room (and even toilet) were amazing!!! Food was good. Lots of parking. Loved the decor except for the tacky photos in the lobby & childish paintings with glitter in some areas. Great town to walk in and also walking paths nearby.

We were looking forward to staying at the hotel, despite the forecast weather. We checked in at 3pm and we were then shown to our room. It was on entering the room, that our expectations clashed with the reality. The room was devoid of any colour, soft furnishings, pictures etc anything that would have made the room warm & welcoming was absent. Everything was white, white walls, white bed sheets etc. My wife called me over to view the bathroom. I use the term “bathroom” loosely & only in the sense that there was a sink, a toilet, and a shower cubicle in a small boxed off area in the corner of the room. This so called “bathroom” was a plastic pod that resembled an aircraft toilet and comparable to one in size. Had anyone felt the need to use the toilet, their knees would have been wedged hard against the door. I stood in the shower and drew the flimsy , cheap shower curtain across. My face was up against the curtain, only a Borrower would have found it spacious. We complained to the man behind the desk. By his response to our complaint and general demeanour, you would have thought that he was a not too distant relative of Basil Faulty. When I explained the issue to him, his response was you booked the cheapest room - £160 p/n breakfast extra cheap !!! ???? I replied that they had appeared to have taken the concept of basic quite literally & it wasn’t good enough. We asked for a refund,. Having got a refund we located to a better hotel in nearby Boscastle.

I am amazed how the staff knew my room number, and wow! Staying at a hotel that looks like a castle is a treat. I loved my ocean view room. It put me at ease so I can do my work. And I love all the artwork and crystals around the hotel! I felt like an old time celebrity staying here.

Loved staying at this old hotel. It was absolutely beautiful! Small room but to be expected. Modern convenience with claw/ shower!! Our window looked out on the Tintagel Castle ruins! We stayed two nights while exploring the area. Food was wonderful and you could get continental breakfast to go .

An awesome castle (though modern) in an amazing setting. Unfortunately, that's all the redeeming points. The standard double room is small, pokey and outdated. The widows didn't open but leaked (windy). The ensuite was nothing more than a small cupboard.

As you drive towards the hotel, it really has the wow factor; a castle on the edge of a cliff next to the Atlantic Ocean. As you get closer you realise that its run down and hasn't been maintained externally for a number of years. Inside, you enter into the Great Hall, and again wow, a really lovely space on the ground floor with huge fireplaces and sweeping staircases. The first person we saw when when we entered the hotel was the owner, John Mappin, as guests in his establishment, It would have been great if he had welcomed us and asked us about our journey; instead, he simply dismissed us as if we were invading his space. The next person we met was the hotel Receptionist. Again, there was no welcome, just a perplexed look as we had arrived after a 5 hour journey at 1.50, when check-in opened at 2. We were told we were unable to check-in as the rooms were not ready, and told to go for a walk or a drive for a while - not even shown to the bar or longue to relax. When we finally got our key, we were located on the second floor, as we entered the room (which cost £250 per night) we were welcomed by a large space cluttered with mis-matching, old furniture; the curtains were at least 30 years old and the curtain rail was hanging off the wall. Despite other reviews saying that the hotel decor was 'quirky' or 'shabby-chic', it isn't - it is simply shabby. £250pn can be so better spent with some research, the hotel is massively under-invested despite being at full capacity a lot.

We were only able to book a Standard room, but it was small, which would be OK, but the bathroom was like an airplane toilet with virtually no room to move in. Obviously as an old building that in the past had hallway bathrooms that we shared, this was a poor afterthought to upgrade the room to be able to ma t as an en suite bathroom.

The bathroom connected to our room was small considering the price and differed from the shown photos, possibly unlucky with the room given and the situation might be better in other rooms. However, the area and the room were nice. The lobby had strange smell, mostly likely due to old age of the property.

This property is in a stunning location but do be very careful what room you book. We had a four poster room with sea view so quite above a standard room and unfortunately the bathroom in this room was more like a caravan shower and toilet although probably even worse and smaller! as I have stayed in caravans and seen better bathrooms!! It was a massive let down.. other people did experience the same and you could upgrade for a hefty price to have a room with a proper en-suite. The bed itself was really creaky and the pillows soft and duvet too thick but that bit is personal preference. A lot of people checked out early because of the bathroom issue, I guess a lot of the room have these so called “en-suites..” I don’t expect to pay for a four poster bedroom which was quite big itself to then be expected to use this so called bathroom. I wouldn’t stay here again and you could stay somewhere much better with similar views.
